Re: What are you reading?

  • I just finished Anna and the French Kiss earlier last week and Lola and the Boy Next Door last night. They were pretty reccommended on the Nest Book Club board so I decided to give them a go. They were both really good!

I am also inching through The Audacity of Hope, just for the heck of it. It's been pretty good so far too.

I don't know what I am going to start next....Oh wait. Yes I do. I'm probably going to actually dive into the Sookie Stackhouse books that I have.

Here is my GoodReads profile....I hope it works. You can go there to see what I want to read or what I have read.

  • i haven't read a lot of books lately. i've been slowly chugging away at shania twain's autobiography...which is very interesting, but not at all engaging and does not keep you hooked. i've only read it on airplanes for the last few months....i'm still in her teenage years.

other than that, i've been reading pregnancy books.

  • I tend to read a lot at once and finish books pretty quickly. ^^

One of my childhood favorite authors passed away a few weeks ago, I've been rereading some of her books. Anne McCaffrey's Pegasus and Tower and Hive Series.

I finally got to borrow Heat Wave (Richard Castle) from SPL and about to start that (on the waitlist for the other 2). Finishing up Lauren Conrad's books. :P Also finished the Wicked Lovely series by Melissa Marr.

I'm giving Jim Butcher's Dresden Files another go cause so many friends say they're great (even though the first one kind of blew).

And I'm working my way through Terry Brooks's Shannara and Void of the Word series again.

Starting up the Girl with a whatever series at some point soon.

  • I'm on Book Five of the Wheel of Time series.  DH got me started with these, and it's hard to stop.... Geeked

I want to read the Hunger Game series, but I might wait until after I watch the movie.

I love the Dresden Files! I agree, the first one was not his best. It was his first novel so that could be why. Have you read his Codex Alera books? So good!

The next book I'm reading is Ghost Story, the 13the book in the Dresden Files. Once we get it back from DH's co-worker.

  • I'm halfway through a book I bought at the airport titled "Proof of Heaven" which is really sad but I really enjoy it so far.  I just need to carve out time to sit down and read it more.  I recently read "Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet" and loved it (bonus points for being set in Seattle).  On my list to read still: "Life of Pi" (sitting on my dresser); "The Tiger's Wife"; and "The Help" (my mom owns a copy so I refuse to buy it for my Kindle).  If you're just looking for book suggestions, some of my all-time favorites are:

    -The Alchemist
    -The Lovely Bones
-The Millenium Trilogy (Girl with Dragon Tattoo; Girl who Played with Fire; Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest)
-The Art of Racing in the Rain
    -Little Bee, Chris Cleave
    -Catcher in the Rye
    -Lolita
    -Water for Elephants

Everyone raves about The Hunger Games so I may try that in 2012, but I have to be honest - every time I read the back of the book for the summary, I am totally uninterested in the plot... so we'll see.

    Another vote for that book.

Kimberly, you and I have pretty similar tastes in books.

And in college mascots (Huskies), and in vacation destinations (Iceland, SF), and I think a while ago you posted about some shoes you got that were really nice (but may be confusing you for another poster who had a thing for Jimmy Choo and Louboutin)... if that's the case, we have similar taste in shoes as well since shoes are one of my guilty pleasures (and handbags).  :)

    Guilty on both accounts.

A Birkin is on my holy grail list. I'm asking for a Chanel black jumbo flap with gold hardware for my 30th. Angel

Ha!  We were over at a friend's house for dinner last month and she busted out her Birkin to show DH (he knows I love-love-love them and he'd never seen one in person, at least not that he realized) and he got the contact for her Hermes salesperson in SF so I'm thinking a Birkin might be in my future... or maybe I'm just dreaming but I can hope!

LOVE that Chanel you're talking about (if it's the one I'm thinking of!).  When our florist effed up our flowers at our wedding I called and complained and got some money back, which I promptly used to buy a LV bag that would work to "carry my laptop when traveling".  H just rolled his eyes at me but I didn't care.  He does not get my handbag obsession.  I am glad at least one Nestie does!

When is the big 3-0?  I hope you will post photos of your new gift!

Im turning 30 in July, but there is no way in hell that h would buy it for me. The best that I could hope for is that I buy it and he refrains from rolling his eyes. The day flying unicorns come barreling out of his butt is the day that he'll buy me a f&b item.

I hope you get your birkin though! Will you post pics when you get it? What size and color do you want?

Yes!  When / if I get it (and this isn't just a pipe dream), I will surely post pictures.  I don't know what color I want... DH and I have discussed this ad nauseum.  We firmly disagree on the color issue: I think it should be a neutral that I can carry frequently (i.e. black, tan, etc.) and DH is like, "If you're going to spend that much money on a handbag, you might as well buy some sort of obnoxious color that says, 'Eff you, world, I just bought a handbag that cost a gargantuan amount in burnt orange (or powder blue or something) because I don't give a f*ck.'"  Problem is, I'm not going to be collecting this like Victoria Beckham so I probably need to get a neutral color to get the most bang for my buck... but I really want to get red!

As for size - I want the medium-sized one.  I really want something similar in size to the LV Galleria PM (the bag with the brass plaque on the side, smaller version).  Anything bigger than that feels like a travel tote, and anything much smaller won't hold all my crap.

I definitely won't get this until mid-2012 at the earliest.... if ever...

  • I'm reading:

     The Map of Time

     A Christmas Carol

     The Omnivore's Dilemma

image"I've always followed my father's advice: he told me, first to always keep my word and, second, to never insult anybody unintentionally. If I insult you, you can be goddamn sure I intend to. And, third, he told me not to go around looking for trouble." -John Wayne
  • Currently I'm reading the Song of Ice and Fire series - DH got me into the HBO series based on the first book (Game of Thrones), and one of his friends is really into the books, so I started the first one, got halfway through, and then DH commandeered my nook so he could read it haha.  I just got another nook for myself a few weeks back, and I'm back to where I was when I stopped reading it last time lol.

I saw someone was reading the Wheel of Time series - I've heard those are great, and they're on my list of to-read :)

DH really wants me to read Dune (his all time favorite series ... because we aren't nerds or anything hahaha), but I haven't done that one yet lol.

Some of my favorites: The Help, the Alchemist, The Road, His Dark Materials trilogy, The Art of Racing in the Rain, I read the first two The girl with the [insert something], and got halfway through the third one and just got bored with it lol...ummm I'm pretty all over the place in my book choices :D
