Old books

I have a handful of books to get rid of but don't know what to do with them.  Our local good will won't take them.  They said they already had too many books.  Is there a library or somewhere else I can donate them?

Re: Old books

  • Depending on what age they're for, you can always call some nursing homes or homeless shelters to see if they have any use for them.
    Books read in 2012: 49
    my bookshelf!
Katie (gingerfeathers)'s book recommendations, favorite quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)

  • Unless they are items the library actually needs (new popular fiction for public, newest edition reference for academic, either/or for school) they will probably end up in the book sale if you donate them to a library.

Not to sound shiitty or ungrateful, but libraries just don't have the space or resources to put items they don't need on the shelves. And nothing is more annoying than a patron coming in, "I found these science textbooks from the 70s, aren't try great, I'd like to donate them!" Not that I think you'd do that.

I forgot about this.  We have bins at work to take old magazines to donate.  I'm pretty sure I can take books also.  Thanks!

Ha! I always sold my old text books in college in even if they were only worth $5-$10 just so I would never encounter this!
