Howdy! I bought one sheet of peg board to split between my pantry and my sewing room, so I'm pretty excited about all the storage possibilities. My question is what do you put on your peg board? I'm thinking quilting rulers (I'm kind of a ruler whore, I have probably 6-8 that I use regularly and another 10 or so for special blocks), but I can't come up with anything else. I want to have my scissors, pens/pencils, seam rippers, and so on handy in cups on my table because I have a really deep sewing table and I don't want to have to stand up to reach the peg board. Make any sense?
How hard is it to find cups that have peg board hangers? Like, to hang my knitting needles and such up there also?
I know, check Pinterest, I have been, but I am just looking for some more ideas for it because I don't want to go through the work of putting this up and then end up not using it all because I have no idea what to put up there.
Re: Peg board in sewing room
this is mine right after I put it up & before I totally covered it with STUFF..
How long are your knitting needles? I think the center pot that I have might be big enough for them (the one with the bear head) it's from ikea. Amazon has a ton of pegboard accessories too.
I have my rulers hanging from hooks on a bar. It's not perfect (I had to use bolt cutters to shorten the hooks) but I like that they can be stacked up/pushed together, but still on separate hooks so I don't have to take them all off to get to the one in the back. I'm using the same bar to hold completed projects for pictures.
You could hang your thread:
There are several I have seem on pinterest with cups that look simple to mount.

I have slatwall instead of pegboard, but it is the same idea. I have yardsticks, framing squares and other miscellaneous measuring tools, I hang my smaller self healing mats (we drilled holes and installed grommets), my sleeve ironing board, a light and some shelves (up high). I have a place to hang garments too.
I do hang scissors/rotary cutters and there is a cup for other stuff, but I don't need all eleventy-billion of them to be within reach. I keep the ones I need for what I am working on on the table or near me. I have some of the small wood boxes/drawers from Ikea hanging low, above the table, and I keep extra needles and little stuff that I want close at hand instead of on my wall of shelves in there.
You ladies really make me want an Ikea!!
I'm just wondering if there are peg board cups already made somewhere or if I have to buy the hooks and find the cups? I've seen a ton of hooks, but the little looking I did on Amazon didn't produce any cups. I guess I need to just make it and get it put up, then see. Plus I just decided to use a can rack in my pantry space instead of the peg board, so I have way more peg board than I know what to do with!

most of the pegboard specific cups/containers I've seen are small & the pegs are attached to the lid. I would just buy an assortment of hooks for the pegboard and find a container you like to hang from the hooks. These aren't really cups, but might work. I almost bought them, but decided to wait and see what I could do with the pegs & ikea stuff I had bought.
Also, check your local hardware store for pegboard hanging kits. The guy at my store showed me a set that came with screws, wall anchors, and spacers that sit btwn the wall & the pegboard. It was SO MUCH EASIER to hang the pegboard with these instead of the 1x2 wood strips we used in the garage & I didn't lose the outer rows of holes for hanging stuff. We put two screws in each corner and three down the center of the board to keep it from flexing. (11 total for 24 x 48 pegboard)
I have seen the cups before....I think DH has one on for the pegboard in the garage.
We did make some of the things on my slatwall. DH and I had fun retrofitting stuff. Well, I had fun figuring it out....not so sure how much fun DH had implementing my ideas.lol
I also like this idea, but I've been too lazy to work on it.
