Be careful what you write.

That employee was let go this morning, and his emails are being forwarded to me. Among those are the active emails of another coordinator who is out on maternity leave. She must be logged in from home because she's emailing her H about the firing. This could get interesting.

Re: Be careful what you write.

  • Well!

    You will keep us posted,yes??

  • Oh laurd, do people seriously think that their company email is anything but company property?

When a charity I work with fired an employee recently and forwarded her email to the director, the director was getting somewhat seedy personal emails meant for the former employee for months until words made it around that she was gone.

It helped the director feel better about her decision to let her go. To say the least.

  • OMG be REALLY careful what you write!

At my old job one of my tasks was to go through the (thousands) of emails of our recently fired purchasing manager. In addition to dozens of unfulfilled customer requests, there were HUNDREDS of sexual emails between him and his wife and they were...detailed. Like, hot wax and handcuffs detailed. Best of all, I had to print them all out, highlight pertinent details, and summarize them in a file in case he tried to sue us.

Motz, keep us posted on your mat leave coworker! I am so nosy about what people say to each other "in private".

He was giving her a Brazilian as foreplay? I just don't know if that would do it for me. Hmm.

I agree with everything that muddled said. You should listen to her. -ESDReturns

    Love this story.

  • Yeah, with company email I was always told don't write what you wouldn't want printed on the front of a newspaper for all the world to see.

    Do keep us updated. :)

  • I seriously do not think people realize that emails are usually in some capacity permanent, especially at work.  They are archiving things and they will be able to pull them out.

I am curious about what you find out though.  One of my great joys in life is when I use a public computer that someone left a chat client up on.

  • My job is to read people's company email.  It's crazy some of the things people say in company email.  I know way too much about some marriages and family issues.  I'm always uncomfortable when I have to forward something to a supervisor that is obviously very personal, but really if something could put our clients at risk then I have to.
