Men's suits?

DH needs a couple new suits, but I've never bought them for him, his mom usually buys them (lol).... anyways, I'm stumped on gift ideas for him and I think i'll get him a suit or two.

I saw a commercial for Men's Warehouse BOGO.  My brother has some suits from there but doesn't wear them often so he can't really tell me how well they'll hold up.  I don't want to spend a ton, maybe around $300-400 total (is that even doable?)  He doesn't need anything high end...

Any recs for where to go?  I saw some in Macy's yesterday but wanted to shop around a little bit before I buy anything.

Re: Men's suits?

  • We've had good luck for suits at places like Sym's and K&G Men's Warehouse for H.

  • My DH has 2 suits from Men's Warehouse and they're great.  He's had them about 3 years now and they did the alterations, fittings etc.  He bought them from the one in Springfield.  I don't remember how much we spent but it was a BOGO1/2 off.  He said they fit great and even though he did gain weight the suit's still look good on him.

We also looked at Macy's when DH was looking but they didn't fit nearly as well and we got better service at Men's Warehouse.

  • DH got a few suits at Men's Warehouse and they have been great. His favorite is the Calvin Klein one and I think it was around $350.

    Ditto this.

  • The Sym's next to Twinbrook Metro is closing, so you might be able to find some really good deals there.
  • Jos A Banks has an awesome suit sale a couple of times a year and they have beautiful quality suits.

Also, right around this time last year, DH got some gorgeous suits at the Barney's Outlet in Leesburg - he got a couple Burberry suits, a Hugo Boss suit and some other upscale brand that I can't remember - maybe Armani or Paul Smith?  The sales were out of control - I think he got 5 suits for less than $1K.

  • DH has had good luck at Jos. A Bank (they usually have good sales as well) and Macy's. He wears a suit every day and they've held up nicely.
  • this is a thread I am bookmarking -- my husband NEVER wears a suit. Has no need. Until... there is a need. and then the ONLY suit he has is one that his mother bought him in 1996. She died in 1997, so he wants to keep wearing it. Sadly, it doesn't quite fit around the ol' waistband....

Now I know some good places to take him! thanks, you guys!

  • DH likes Jos A Bank and buys suits when they have their big sales (usually half off or more).

The only suit my H has the one his mother bought him for our wedding. He's an art teacher, so he only needs to wear a suit if we're invited to a wedding or funeral. I think he might only own 2 ties, too.

  • Another recommendation for Jos A Banks.

Because of DH's stupid sizing, Jos A Bank is the only store in the area that carries his size and it's the only store I can really tell you about. They ARE more 'spendy' (to quote grams) but the quality is much better than K&G (the only other place here DH's found suits). That said, we only shop there during their huge sales events.

I've heard really good things about MW and if DH is a standard size, he'll probably have luck at K&G as I've heard the quality really varies and you just have to look for the good stuff. Also Macys - look for sales, coupons, fliers, etc.

  • Yeah, I will say, my H is a super random size (he's super tall with ultra long arms and a really broad athletic build) so that may be why we have luck with cheaper suits at K&G and Sym's.  He also has a bunch of designer-ish (Hugo Boss, Liz Claiborne Signature) suits and wears them every day and they hold up.

  • Ditto Jos. A Banks. DH also swears by Brooks Brothers Outlet.
  • *post hijack alert!*

I looked at a suit for my FI at Brooks Brothers, we lurve it but I can not recall if I did check the price, grr!?????

Now, since many of you are saying Jos A Banks, I assume it's similar to Brooks, right? And so when is their infamous big sale??

I don't think they're in the same ballpark as Brooks Brothers, either in quality or price.  However, they do have nice stuff.  I get daily emails from them too. Today's email is for:   Buy 1 Suit, Get 5 Items FREE! Plus 65% OFF Every Sweater, Pant and Sportshirt Online.

So I would sign up for their emails since they always seem to be offering a discount.
