XP: Bath - Porous?

We live in a house about 80 years old. Bath is probably porcelain or porcelain-covered iron (definitely not plastic).

For the past 2 years we've struggled to keep it clean. I've always put this down to our general laziness and my husband put it down to my hippy cleaning products.

I just did an art project using regular acrylic paints. I got some paint on the bottom of my feet. I walked straight to the bath, showered (with soap, I'm not that much of a hippy). The paint has stained my tub so now I have yellow and green foot print stains on the bottom of my bath.

I've scrubbed with hippy products and now have my husband's big gun products on it to soak. I think we'll get it out, but it made me think that maybe our bath needs to be seal again. Is it too porous? Is there some maintainance that we're not doing? It seems crazy to me that 15 seconds could leave that much of a stain when it came out of all of the other flooring I walked on.

Thanks in advance.

Re: XP: Bath - Porous?

  • My only ideas are what I put in the other bathtub post---find a maker or seller and ask them? I don't know anything about sealing bathtubs and who might do it for you. Like I said in the other post, you could always ask Lowes or Home Depot but I am doubtful that they'd be helpful. Good luck though!
  • I don't know what the rest of your bath surround looks like but it sounds like you might need to have your bathtub reglazed. From everything I have read it's not something you should really DIY, but it can make an amazing difference w/ old porcelain tubs, sinks and even tile.
