Thinking of getting Uggs. Help?

I held off on getting these for a long time thinking they were a trend that would pass. Now that I have like 1000 pairs of ballet flats (which are not very durable or winter-friendly) and no good winter shoes, and also I've noticed that Uggs seem here to stay, I think I'm going to bite the bullet and get some.

Do they hold up in the snow?

What styles or colors do you recommend?  Thanks :)

  • I just have slipper UGGS so I can't really answer your questions.....BUT, I love them. I have worn then every day for 2 years and they seriously look like I just look them out of the box. My MIL has like 5 or 6 pairs between short boots, tall boots, slippers etc., and she loves each and every pair.

  •  They are comfortable and my feet stay warm. I have 2 pairs of the orginal ones- one in the light brown and one brown. Use the weather-proofer for them though

If you are looking for boots to actually go out in the snow in though, I have a pair of bogs and I love them!

HA!  I was just thinking this exact same thing the other day.  Glad I'm not alone.

  • I was an Ugg hater for a while until my DH bought me a pair for Christmas a couple years ago. They are seriously amazing. I was worried that my feet would get super hot in them, but they don't at all and they are so comfy. They do great in the snow...we bought that protector stuff that they sell for them though.I have these ones with the  the buttons on the side and I would not recommend buying them. I loved them at first, but now they are starting to flop over instead of standing up like they show for the boot on the left, and when they flop over it looks soooo dumb.

  • I hated the FUGG (f-ing ugly) trend for awhile until I bought a cheaper pair at Costco and borrowed my sister's EMU version and absolutely loved how warm they make my feet feel!! At Younker's they have their own version (cannot think of what the name is though) and are really reasonable if you want to just "try" them out before buying. Def. recommend the water-proofer and wear socks or they might get sweaty feet stinky.

Often, I wear mine with bootcut jeans over the top so you cannot even see what they are or I go complete opposite and wear them with leggings and a sweater dress.

  • I have Uggs in the chestnut color and love them. I also 3 pairs from Costco and I swear they are the same thing as Uggs just no sticker on the back and they are only like $35...big plus in my book.

My husband jokes that they are not all weather shoes. We lived in NYC and I walked home in a slushy, wet, heavy snow one time and the water just sopped through them. I haven't had any trouble in the winter with them otherwise.

  • For holding up in the snow I would buy something a little more weather-proof.  I have a pair of Uggs (they're almost 6 years old now, aaaack!) but I don't usually slog around in the snow in them much.  I have a pair of Sorel Caribou boots that are really great for when you're outside for a while in snowy conditions, and those will probably be what I wear when walking in and out of work this year.

  • I have a pair of black and dark brown Uggs and love them.  I've been wearing Uggs for years, despite how they look ;)  They are good for running errands in the snow or things like that, but if you're going to be in deep, wet snow, slush, I'd recommend something more durable.  Using the spray protector helps a great deal, too.  Smile
  • Thanks ladies! I got a pair this morning, gray with three buttons up the side. I love them already! On my way into the mall, the strap of my brown mary jane flats broke. I took this as a sign from the universe that I was meant to get them.

I appreciate the recs for different snow boots too!

  • Confession:  I actually bought a pair of Croc boots (tall).  They arrived last week and are soooo comfy and warm.  Love them!  The toe part is tapered (doesn't have the normal fatty half-circle toe of the original Crocs), and I wore them with a skirt and tights on Sunday.  DH said they looked great.

A friend of mine swears by Crocs flip flops in summer...
