B-day party ?

DS is turning 2 very shortly. Crying We are having a brunch/pajama party next Sunday to celebrate. I'm making muffins, cinnamon rolls, breakfast casserole and fruit. Am I horrible for thinking about just giving DS a muffin instead of a cupcake? MIL acted like it was the end of the world when I told her I wasn't planning on doing cake or cupcakes at the party. I had planned on making him a cake or doing cupcakes on his actual birthday for us to have after supper as a family. Should I do them at the party instead?

  • No cake or cupcakes at a party? Lame.

  • I'm lame too Stick out tongue  I wouldn't do a cake for a morning party especially if you are doing one on his actual birthday.  Slap a candle on a muffin and call it a day!

  • Put some icing on the muffin and tell everyone it's a cupcake ;) I really don't think you need cake too. I think we are all going to be pretty stuffed from the rest of the stuff you are making.

  • Some people might think it's weird... but it's not like he isn't going to get one on his birthday! Put a little frosting on the muffin, stick a "2" candle in it, and call it a day! :-)

  • How about cinnamon rolls with icing?  That would be more cake-like than muffins.
  • I would give my kids a cupcake, but I don't get too hung up about things like that.  It's one day, a cupcake won't hurt them!

This isn't an 'I don't want my kid to have cake/sugar/bad food' issue. I'm soooo not that kind of mom! Smile I just don't want to make anymore food and I'm really not going to go buy cake for a morning birthday party. I just figured I would put some cream cheese frosting on his muffin and put a candle on it. He will think its a cupcake anyway!

  • From a party-goers point of view, when you go to a birthday party you kind of expect cake of some sort. If I went to party without a cake or dessert I wouldn't mind really, but most party-goers kind of expect that there will be one.

i say do what you want! :)
