Flat irons?

This may have been discussed before, but is there anything to know about selecting a flat iron?

I have straight hair so have never given a passing thought to a flat iron. I mean, I've spent most of my life trying to infuse body and curl into my hair, why would I want to further flatten and straighten it?? But I keep hearing how flat irons are a must-have, even for straight hair. *shrug*  Today, I tried a friend's and kinda like the smoothness. So now I'm thinking of adding one to my Xmas wishlist. Nothing too over the top...not sure yet how much I'd use one.

Got one to recommend??

Re: Flat irons?

  • I have straight hair and I flat iron daily. Now I forgo blowdrying entirely, and just airdry, then smooth. I like the appearance of perfectly straight hair.

You can also achieve this with a blowdryer and flat boar brush.

At work I use a babyliss flatiron, its not my fave. At home I use a Tigi. I love my Tigi because it doesnt pull hair, and it has a digital temp setting.

Make sure you use a heat protectant, and keep the flat iron below 400 degrees.

  • Before I chopped all my hair off I was in love with my new Paul Mitchell.  I've had a Chi and liked it and a GHD that was $$ and crapped out after 1 week.

  • I could not live without our CHI.  I have really curly unruly hair and it makes it perfectly straight and it stays straight even in the humidity.  DD dropped the plug to mine and it shattered (I seriously need to send it in to get fixed) and so we both share hers.  After over 2 years it is still going strong.

  • I have a HeatMaster or something like that from Sally's. It does it's job.

I was at Walmart yesterday and I saw Chi's for $88!

I do need a new one though. I have never had a Chi before. Need to do some comparison shopping.

BTW... Jules, your daughter is gorgeous!

  • Thanks!

My Paul Mitchell was about that price and I liked it better than the Chi I had for 5 years.
