You all convinced go to "low key" for Xmas this year for SD - the husband and I have kept to this.
However.
For some reason, he decided to get online and google the "most coveted toys of 2011." Which put us at Toys R Us after bootcamp last night.
Oh my!!
I can see how things get completely out of control. There are SO many fun toys out there and is it just me or do Cabbage Patch dolls smell DELICIOUS??? We did finally buy SD a Razor - it has chalk on the end of it to make fun designs in our driveway - but we also ended up at Target to buy their last FIJIT Friend. That thing is annoying as hell and will hopefully end up at her mother's but I am pretty sure I will end up having to buy one for DH as well.
I also got her the Game of LIfe - I LOVED that game when I was a kid. So, it is really more of a present for me, I guess.
My point is: Toys R Us/Target/Walmart was a mad house of moms and dads racing all over the place. Some carts were just FULL of stuff with moms and dads shrieking around at all of the cute stuff. It was really hard to get away from the christmas spirit. And the delicious smell of that Cabbage Patch dolls.
Re: Christmas shopping stories?
And that right there is why when I purchased gifts for runnergirl's kids, I did in-store pickup at Toys-R-Us. Ordered and paid online, and then went to guest services to pick it up... didn't have to venture any further into the store! It was great!
I don't know what was going on at Penn Square a few nights ago though... something with Santa, I'm assuming. But there was a line full of parents and kids that went the entire length of one of the wings and into the center area of the mall. Nothing is worth a wait like that.
my bookshelf!
Bloggy
We did this for M's first Christmas and I thought I was going to die trying to get through the sea of people in the toy section. Last year we bought almost everything online and it was fabulous! This year has been a mixture of the two, but I did start earlier so it hasn't been that bad.
I think your SD is going to love that razor. I look at all of the cool toys they have out now and wonder why didn't they have this when I was a kid??
Huh. Sounds to me like we need to have a Norman dinner date, eh?
I don't understand it either. The only black Friday shopping I did this year was on-line. Placed an order online and was able to go pick it up in-store later in the day. So much better than fighting the crowds or standing in the cold.
I agree! I got a few things online, but other than that, I don't think Ileft my house. I am nearly done shopping (getting the last few things tomorrow I hope), but for the kids I shop through the year. They have been done since probably August.
