I know some of you already know this through FB, but I just want to put out a warning that break-ins are on the rise.
H came home from work yesterday and our house was broken in to. Thankfully they were gone by the time he got home, no one was hurt and everything they took can be replaced.
What I'm really upset about is that they took both of our passports. (#whitewhine) I know this is really petty and trite, but I feel like I worked hard for those stamps and visas and now they're gone.
The worst part of all of this is knowing that someone's been in my house... rifling through my underwear.
The police officer told us that it's not unusual to have someone come back and get your house a second time. We're installing an alarm system and have had the windows and patio door replaced, but I can't help but jump every time I hear something now.
I'm sure I'm being very paranoid right now, but I don't know if my posts here have anything to do with my break in. I don't know if they, somehow, found me and tracked the comings and goings through these posts. (Ugh, I am a crazy person now.) I'm going to GBCN, at least for a while, till I can get things sorted out. I'll lurk around still.
Please, be safe everyone.

Re: I need to GBCN. Our house was broken in to last night.
Oh no!!! I am so, so sorry UW. That is horrible. And being upset about losing the passports isn't petty at all. With all the traveling you guys do, I'd be completely brokenhearted to lose those stamps.
In general, I've noticed a lot more police activity in our neighborhood lately, and it makes me really nervous. We live in a secured building with gates and codes, but there's a guy who has been hanging around (I think his mom lives in our building?) and he was being questioned by the police when I came home a couple nights ago. We've been really, really careful lately, but I'm still nervous about it. People are horrible sometimes.

I'm sorry about this
My parents house was broken into when I was little and they stole my mom's wedding rings (she had eczema and didn't wear them that day) - they also left behind cashews, weird. I know the absolute worst feeling is knowing someone was in your home and not knowing whether they will ever be held accountable. I think middle of the day break-ins are becoming common (good thing and bad thing - no one is home to get hurt, but crazy that they are so bold) and all they would have to do is see you drive away for work. Just saying, it probably isn't related to TN, but I understand your concerns.
Good luck with the process of everything, maybe they will find your passports - I mean, what can they do with them? If they tried to use them I'm sure they'd get caught. My boss and his wife had their house broken into during the day 2 years ago and stole his wife's sentimental jewelry. They actually caught the people trying to pawn it, so it's not impossible!

UW - that sucks. I'm so so sorry. The violation of privacy would scare me more than anything.
Sorry, I know that sucks and can really freak you out for a while.
LIke I said in jennlin's post, I"d be concerned about identity theft w/ your passports...that's probably why they took them. Be really careful about checking your credit report and all your accounts. Sorry!

Ugh, that is just horrible!! I am so sorry!
That would stress me out a LOT.
We actually had an alarm system put on our house a couple of months ago, despite our crime rate being really low, but this sort of thing still terrifies me.
