Does anyone actually enjoy office holiday parties? (vent)
The ones held after hours at a location away from the office? No offense to my co-workers but I just really dont want to have to spend my free time with them.
And to top it off, I think we will spend part of the time discussing work. Ugh.
If we have to do something, I'd almost rather just do a lunch or something.
Bet you can guess where I'm headed this evening.
Re: Does anyone actually enjoy office holiday parties? (vent)
I sometimes like them.. I wouldn't want to do an after hours party with my current office just because I don't really know them and I don't seem to have much in common with them.
People in the guard- we get together all the time outside of work, so yes. I actually hate doing lunch stuff with them because it doesn't feel as festive.

my read shelf:
I guess if I liked everyone from the office it would be ok, but at most of the offices I've ever worked at there were some people I didn't really want to spend extra time with and make obligatory small talk with. And at my last office, we had assigned seating I rarely got to sit with anyone "cool"
I dont dislike any of my current coworkers, but there are only 3 of us and I just want to go home and relax after a long day - not head back out and either talk shop with coworkers or small talk with spouses and be generally cheery and pretend I don't have anxiety issues when I have a ton of other things to do.

I liked mine when I was working. But then, my co-workers were lots of fun and I liked them.
DH's are okay, now that I've been going for six years and actually know a few people enough to remember their names. Plus, it's my one chance a year to get fancied up for a formal dinner.

Katie Talks About...
I haven't attended the off-site party for the school in the time I have been there - partly because it is always on a weekend and I am unwilling to give up my personal time, and partly because it is up a freaking mountain, and you know Keri doesn't think that is fun or relaxing.
I have loved the return of the "during work hours, at the school, booze is served at like 2pm on a weekday" party the past couple of years. Paid to party? Yes please.

I like ours. it's fancy, good food, free booze, dancing, and a raffle with really good prizes (trips, amex gc, wine).
I've enjoyed them in past years, but this year on a Saturday night with trying to obtain childcare when I don't have any family nearby - nope. I skipped it.
