WWND? Holiday cards, birth announcements

So I am a little behind on the birth announcements, seeing as how LO is 5 months old now, but I think we have a decent excuse with the whole getting-cancer-treatments-from-3-weeks-to-3-months thing. But now that I have my act together (kind of), it's also holiday card time, so is it cheating to send birth announcements with the holiday cards? I'd really like to only address one envelope per family, if I can.

I also need to thank many of the people for their many acts of generosity. I think most of them would be perfectly fine with me hand-writing a note in there, but is a three-for-one TOO tacky? Or can I get a pass with the cancer card? Any other good ideas?

Re: WWND? Holiday cards, birth announcements

  • I would totally combine them (we're doing holiday themed birth announcements and just sending 1 card)

  • I think you "technically" have 6 or 12 months from the time the baby is born to send out announcements. Our DD was born in november and we sent out the accouncements/new year cards the end of january.

This year I am really behind and will be sending thank you cards from her bday in with the christmas cards. I don't have a big issue with it but I am also not that big on christmas cards to begin with.

And you have a way better excuse to not have all this done!

  • My opinion might be slightly skewed, since we didn't send birth announcements at all, but I think you're totally fine to combine the whole lot of it. It will make a fun envelope for people to get!

  • I put a birth announcement and Christmas card in each envelope.  Only have to address and stamp one for each family I sent to.

  • Totally fine IMO.

    You're saving trees.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • I would combine.  I did that for both kids and didn't send birth announcements for either (mind you, both of mine are born in July).  I just announced in our Christmas letter the birth of the kid and all was good.

  • Woohoo! Thank you guys! I felt like I was violating some Emily Post rule I never knew about, like half the stuff relating to weddings that I learned about on The Knot, so thanks!

  • totally combine them.  DS was born in mid-Dec and we did combo birth announcements/holiday cards.

  • Last year, we used a cute photo of DS and said something in the holiday message about "our most precious gift." Recipients loved the card.  DS was born in November, so it made sense, but I think all of your friends and family will understand that you've been under some serious stress since your LO was born. You could include your heartfelt thanks in a handwritten message that also wishes them a wonderful holiday.
  • I've received a bunch of announcement/Christmas card combos and don't think they are tacky at all!

You're sending one to me, right?  Wink

  • So relieved to read this...we're combining and DS is also 5 months old :)  We just couldn't really afford announcements at the time he was born (post open heart surgery, both of us on light duty, etc.) so I was really hoping people would cut us some slack.  I think you can do whatever...you deserve it :)
