is anyone into couponing?

So I've been getting into using coupons lately, and I am getting a bit obsessed with it! But it's a hobby that doesn't cost money, it saves money, and I can do it for an hour here or there when I have time. I have to go to the grocery store, anyway! Plus, we are trying to trim expenses so it's helpful with that.

Anyone around here use coupons a lot? Do you have any tips or tricks? Would anyone be interested in meeting up for a GTG/coupon swap?

As for a tip, I discovered this website bargainstobounty.com. The gal who writes it is local (macomb) and she does store match-ups so you can match coupons with sales for grocery stores. There's a bunch of other helpful stuff on the site, too. It has saved me $$$$$ for far and I've only been doing this for maybe 2 months.

I coupon!  But I am in no way an extreme couponer.  I often compare my coupons to what is on sale in the main store that I shop at.  I'm not going to spend my time hunting down the best deals at all of the stores in my area.  I know that the store I go to has some of the best quality for the price so I go there.  I try to plan my meals around what is on sale that week and then I use any coupons that I have for those items.

I don't clip coupons for things I don't use.  I don't let the coupon sway me into buying a bunch of things I don't need.  But I do keep a collection of coupons for things that I can store that I use on a regular basis.  I will use those when the items go on sale.

Thanks for the tip on the website.  I will definitely check it out!

Same here! I don't understand why people on that Extreme Couponing show have 400 lbs of dog food when they don't have a dog (or whatever the case may be).

  • Haha, my daughter and I watch that show together and she thinks I need to be an "extreme" couponer so I can be on tv. Stick out tongue

I told her that we only buy what we need or what is free or almost free that we can give to charity. For example, I got some free toothpastes and I know we don't like that brand so DD brought them to school for the holiday charity collection.

That's why we need to have a coupon swap! Maybe I will set something up for sometime in January. Whaddyathink?

  • I'd be down for a holiday swap.

There's a movie out there where women play poker and use coupons instead of money. NAME THAT MOVIE.

  • I'm a couponer but DH tells me I'm not extreme enough.  If I can cut our grocery bill by 30%, I consider it a great week.

I follow the bargains to bounty blog and a bunch of others in my google reader.  I've gotten quite a few good deals and freebies (our christmas cards for example) which has helped save money.

  • Liz - does he want you to be extreme?
