Oh Good Gracious!

Can we just note before I vent that Christmas Eve is in like 16 days?

My family takes turns doing Christmas eve. This year would have been my Mom's year and at Thanksgiving Aunt number 2 told Dad she would do it this year so he didn't have to worry about it. Cool. Not a problem. However I would have done it if asked. Now 16 days before Christmas Aunt 2 emails me and asks if I or my brother's FI want to do it. First off I gladly would have if she would have asked me a MONTH ago. I would need to take the 23rd off and its a little late to do that now. And I would have to go get Dad's house ready because they wouldn't be willing to drive here to our house. Brother's house is to small for our family of 25 so that option is out.

And I really wanted to do Christmas Eve this yearCrying  I emailed her back and told her that given the time crunch and having to plan and get Dad's house ready I don't think it would be feasible this year but would love to do it next year.

Oh this is also the Aunt that wants me to print out my whole blog, only things about my Mom and give them to her. I write for me, not for anyone else. I told her if she wanted them she was more than welcome to print them herself but I was not going to give them to her. She is trying constantly to fill the "void" my Mom left but I don't need it filled by her. She and I were never close and loosing my Mom isn't going to make me run to her.

End Rant.

If you got through that all here is a cup of peppermint hot coco.

  • MMM coco.

Back to the topic at hand...why can't they drive to your house?  You drive to see them any other year...I think it's only fair that they make the drive once every few years.

I don't know if it's in your budget but you could totally still do Christmas Eve if you wanted to.  Make it a buffet type of meal...a ham, roasted potatoes, sauteed green beans and then have everyone else bring a dish to fill in the meal.

We are 2 hours away from where they live. We don't have room for them to all stay here. Its just easier to do it at my Dad's.  And I could do it. And its totally in the budget but I guess because of the way this Aunt is with me I'm trying to prove a point that I would need more time.

    Thanks for your input though!

  • yay for Coco. OP, stick your ground with your Aunt. It is a lot to ask and you're right you need time to plan and prepare and even though you could do it, doesn't mean you should.

Why can't she do it now?
