Is it a bad idea to drive my kids to Lincoln right now?

What are the roads like?  We're supposed leave in 30 min to go to DH's work for a party w/Santa, reindeer, all that fun stuff.  But I'm a little nervous about driving (in a not-great-in-the-snow minivan).  WWYD?

  • WOWT just posted this on FB: Snow is beginning to stick to Metro streets and highways -- several crashes reported in the last 15 minutes -- slow down, turn lights on

  • Don't know if you've left yet, but my DH says the roads here in Lincoln are very very slick.

  • Roads are pretty nasty here in Lincoln
  • Roads in west Omaha got considerably worse between 2:30 and 3:30.  They are getting slick.  I would not drive to Lincoln unless I absolutely had to.

  • Bad idea.

It sucks to miss something fun, but I wouldn't go anywhere tonight if I didn't have to.

  • I honestly didn't feel like they were too bad but I definitely took it easy. The pace was pretty slow but it's manageable. The interstate might make me nervous. I'm sure it would be fine but not without worry. It depends on how much you want to go. Personally I probably wouldn't chance it if I could do so without making the kids super sad. If you do go, just be careful, give yourself lots of time and take it easy.

  • Well, we're home now.  :)  The interstate had basically one lane going westbound, but it wasn't too bad (it was running about 45-50mph).  Side streets though?  Holy man, stay home!

I probly shouldn't have gone, but the kids would have been crushed; they've been pumped about this for weeks.  We were super careful, and thankfully so was everyone else on the roads.  Thanks for the road updates!

Glad you made it safely. That's about what I assumed the interstate would be. If Owen had known that we had plans to go see Santa and reindeer I would've tried really hard to get there too. Again - glad you made it safely here and back.
