s/o - Debt free in 2012

I noticed in the posts below that many of us want to get debt free. I'm curious to see how many people plan to do this with the assistance of a program (like Dave Ramsey) or just create a budget on your own.

I'm eyeing the Dave Ramsey stuff, but can't help but think that spending $100 for his product is counter productive to paying off debt. Then again, maybe his budgeting information is so awesome it will be money well spent.

Dx: PCOS and short luteal phase
18 cycles (3 with our RE) - Metformin + Clomid + HCG booster did the trick!

  • We are working on this in 2012 as well.  We have seen Dave live and if you get a chance to do so, I highly recommend it.  You can get the Total Money Makeover as a stand alone and see what he is about.  You might start there before you take the plunge for the big kit.

  • Love Dave.  Don't 100% agree with everything he says, but love what he stands for.  We did his program several years ago and it was life changing.  The Total Money Makeover is a great place to start.  I'm not sure if you need all the workbooks.  I think and excel spread sheet is fine, but you need to be 100% honest with yourself.  No cheating!

We are fighting hard to pay off our house in the next 5 years.  Having a major party when it's done...  can't wait.

  • We took Financial Peace University classes in 2008 and did very well... Then we fell off the wagon so to speak.  We're signed up to go through some of the classes again (since you can take them again for free for life!) in the Spring to give us a refresh so that we can get back on track and out of debt completely.

The Total Money Makeover is definitely a great place to start.  We're huge Dave Ramsey fans. :)

I would try the library as well, or buy cheap on Amazon.  I did David Bach right after college and it was life changing.  I read Smart People Finish Rich.  He's similar to Dave. If you have self-discipline, the book (Either David) alone would be fine.

  • Thanks, ladies! I didn't even think about the library. That must show that I need to learn alternatives to buying things.  :-)

I am pretty good once I get a plan in place, so I think I'll start with just the book, and if I need the course, I'll checkout the library.

I am excited to get started!
