Birth Control out of the Navy

My H just got out of the Navy and we moved back home. However right now he is going back to school and I am starting work next week. So we will not be eligible for Insurance for a couple more months and my BC prescription is up at the end of January. What can I do? Or where can I go to get a prescription? TIA

Re: Birth Control out of the Navy

  • I've thought about calling medical and asking if they can just refill it. But sine DH is no longer enlisted I am not sure that will work..
  • If your husband isn't enlisted then why would the Navy provide you with birth control? Find a new doctor & get a new prescription.

  • Find a Planned Parenthood near you to get it?
  • I agree with planned parenthood.

  • Another vote for PP.  You may also call your county health department.  Some places will provide a discounted BC.

  • Why in the world would you think that insurance you don't have would pay something for you?

Call to get your prescription transferred, and you should at a minimum be able to pay OOP if it's still active.  PP usually doesn't accept scripts from outside, but walgreens, cvs, target, etc do.  If it's out of date, go to PP for the exam and new script.

You don't even need an exam to get a script from pp. you can sign a waiver, so unless she needs a physical she can just go get it (of course she'll have to meet with the dr/nurse)

While that is true in some states, it is not universal.  In some states, you can do the HOPE program (Hormones with Optional Pelvic Exam), however, that is the exception rather than the rule.  In the majority of states, you must do the full annual exam to renew your BCP prescription.

If her husband is a student, she may be able to get an exam under his student insurance.

  • Or apply for family planning through the health department. Before my husband had joined and before I picked up health insurance, I had that. It's free birth control and gyno visits.

    Actually...

That's pretty much what you said.

The way you worded it just sounded like you were trying to pull a fast one. Not having insurance sucks, but there are lots of options to find low-cost birth control, you just need to research.

  • I vote Planned Parenthood as well. You can transfer it if it shows valid refills. I did this with some of my meds.
