  • My husband, without a doubt.

  • i don't (or if i do, it's opposite everyone else...i hate summer) but i know a lot of people who do...esp. in AK. they have those lights that they sit in front of that's supposed to help. i forget what they are called.

  • Is that when you're either bitchy or crying for all of the cold months? If so, yes. I freaking hate winter.

  • Isn't it typically associated with a vitamin D definciency?? Hit the tanning booth! Vitamin D is from the SUN!!

  • J has it in the winter, without a doubt. My best friend has it in the summer. I personally hate the winter, but it doesn't get me mopey or depressed.. it just ticks me off. J has a "Happy Light" that he puts on in the winter months to help with the vitamin D deficiency. Give it a shot. most you'll lose is $50.
  • Me!!! It affects me the most on days I work. I go to work and its dark and I leave work and its dark. Then while I'm at work for 12hrs the NICU has no windows and my adult patients almost always have the blinds closed.

I've thought about going tanning for once a week to make myself feel better.

  • I think I do.  I've been known to go to the tanning bed a few times during the winter to feel the heat and light.  I haven't done it in years though because I'm afraid to tan now.  I've thought about looking into one of those lamps though.  I freaking hate winter.  After Christmas we could just jump to April.
  • I used to love tanning but honestly too many people I know have gotten skin cancer from it and they weren't those crazies that were going to two different ones.

I was going to say what city says J has you can buy those lights which aren't too bad.

Maybe living down in Louisiana I don't get that way...I only get a little sad because we don't really get snow and when we do I'm like a kid in a candy store (let me say this when I lived in Iowa I hated it haha) I just really want it for when I decorate my house and then Christmas Eve to the 27th then it can go haha.

But otherwise I love the holidays so much and watching Christmas movies cheers me up that I don't and even when it's hot as blazes out there are so many crab, crawfish boils, or parties that it's fun haa

  • I would recommend one of those lights. It really can make a difference. It is not the same thing as going tanning though.

I don't discriminate during different times of year; I am anxious and depressed all the time.

  • yes, it's a change in mood from the lack of light and the shorter days in winter. It's not really the cold as I didn't experience it in Colorado for example where I lived for 8 years. That's because there are more sunny days in Colorado than in FL. MD however can get quite dreary.

FYI - while tanning beds are nice to warm you up they wouldn't really help for SAD.

  • I am not talking about a tanning bed; I am talking about one of those lamps you can get from a therapist or a dermatologist that helps with vitamin d.

That's what J has and it helps him tremendously. You can also try to take a vitamin D supplemnt

oh i know, i know exactly what lights you are talking about. it was more of an FYI for the few people who mentioned tanning beds, not a comment on your post.
