what is the difference?

i was wondering if any of you ladies can help me out. i have been on loestrin 24 fe for the past month and i went to get my perscription filled today. when i got home and opened it up it was a different kind so i called the pharmacy. apparantly they gave me a generic one and instead of 24 white pills it has 21. my question is this....is the 3 less white pills going to decrease the effectiveness of me not getting pregnant? sorry to be so naive but i really dont want to end up in a situation i am not ready for.

Re: what is the difference?

  • There is not an exact generic for Loestrin 24 Fe. The Loestrin 24 Fe has 24 days of hormones and 4 days of placebo. There is a generic for the original Loestrin Fe (which has 21 days of hormones and 7 days of placebo). Most likely, the pharmacy gave you the generic for regular Loestrin and not Loestrin 24. The only difference is that you are have 3 less days of hormones and 3 more days of placebo. My suggestion to you would be to contact your pharmacist or doctor to explain the mix up.

  • I agree with PP.

Also, same thing happened to me when I was on the "generic" version of Loestrin 24 FE.

    Doesn't make your BCP's ineffective.
