Re: Tiffs price matching

  • I PM'd last week for the first time ever.  I saved over $13 on a $40 grocery bill!  I will be doing this from here on out.

  • Ok, so PM question. Do you take in all of the ads or do you just write it down on a piece of paper and tell them as you checkout? The past few times I have been shopping the person in front of me has been doing this and has just had a HUGE list written down and told the cashier.

It depends on the place. Walmart, you don't have to have the ad. Super Saver - it honestly depends on the cashier. Some weeks, they don't ask for the ad, but other weeks, they do!

every cashier is different. I just stuff the ads in my purse, if they ask to see them.
  • Another ?: can you pricematch at places other than Walmart or ss?

  • I have an excel spreadsheet for my matching.  it does help if you put your pricematching items either at the beginning or the end.

It all depends on the cashier.  Lately, they have stunk and I hate Walmart a lot more so today than I have in the past.  Walmart has now been creating cheatsheets for their registers so cashiers can check the price....BUT...their cheatsheet doesn't contain all the items.

So the day before Thanksgiving, I was pricematching and they were telling me I couldn't until Friday because some stores waited till Friday to do their pricing for their ads.  I got in a big argument with the lady and said...fine but the item I want to price match is not on your list for friday ads so it clearly is a non-start friday ad.  Then she got a manager and the manager is trying to find the actual ads and I was asking them...the whole mantra of Walmart is you don't have to have the ad.  Why are you pulling ads?  I did all my search on the internet.  These prices were listed on their ads they posted on the internet.  They ended up getting another manager involved who said...just give her the price.

That incident put me over the top.  So I still price match but I go through the checkout already on the defensive because some of them are not following the guidelines.  I think I'm going to start bringing a copy of their policy and waiving it in their face that I don't have to have an ad which also means you shouldn't have to verify on your cheatsheet if my prices are correct.  They claimed their cheatsheet are items that they feel most people will be pricematching or are the popular items.

I get their double checking because I'm sure a lot of people are trying to cheat the system but I am one who always errors on the side of ....if I don't know if it can be pricematched....I don't buy it at walmart.

    I hate walmart

  • Not a PM but a great deal at Walgreens:

Triaminic is on sale there 2/$10 and you get 3 RR wyb 2 making it 2/$7. Then in the 12/4 SS there is a coupon for $3 off one. Get 2 of those, making this a sweet deal at 2/$1!

And yes, I PM at walmart and only bring my list of them written down. They have the ads at the checkouts if they need them. I'm not a fan of walmart either but when you combine PM with extreme couponing it makes for a win-win!

My Hy-Vee (Shadowlake) told me they wouldn't price match? Weird...

Very weird!  I've only done it the one time but Stony Brook had no problem.  I've seen others do it so I gave it a whirl.

  • Target price matches as well... but you have to do it at customer service and you have to have the ad. They go through it with a fine tooth comb to make sure dates match up. I had a TRU ad with a Woody doll for $34.99 (Target's price was $39.99) and the ad was for the week I was there, but that specific page of the TRU ad wasn't until the next day. I was really annoyed (probably more at myself for not noticing that) but that I couldn't do it until the next day. Seriously... come on. I normally would have just gone to TRU to avoid the hassel but I had the $10 gift card coupon to use :)

  • I've never pricematched at HyVee, but I'll have to try it.

The one time I PM, it was at WalMart. I took the ads in and had circled items in red marker.  I also had my grocery list with the prices that should apply, which I just read from.  The cashier did check a few of the ads, but for the most part, trusted what I said.  I wasn't sure of the policy, so that's why I took the ads.

So, K, did you take the ads to HyVee or just tell them the prices?

  • Oh, and I also PM at Walmart --- I always go to the one on 370 and I-80 on Sunday night around 8 with a typed up list. I save my PM for the end and put them on the belt in the order my list is. I've never had them question anything, nor have I had to show them an ad.

I busted out my ads right away.  I think I only had about 10 items from 3 different stores.  I grouped them on the belt by store I was PMing.  I think they would have asked if I didn't have the ads but I'm not sure.
