BR: Dialated renal pelvises? Pediatric urologist?

We've had multiple ultrasounds with this baby because it's renal pelvises are slightly dialated. Nothing too alarming but on the higher end of normal apparently. At my visit this morning the doctor wants to do an ultrasound on baby six weeks after delivery and if things come up abnormal again refer us to a pediatric urologist. I'm not too alarmed, but if anyone has had to deal with this in the past your advice would be appreciated!

Thank you!

Re: BR: Dialated renal pelvises? Pediatric urologist?

  • I have no experience with the dilated renal pelvis, but Little G had to have surgery as an infant, and I can recommend a *great* pediatric urologist if it comes to that.

  • No advice but if you do need a pediatric urologist, I highly recommend Rocky Mountain Pediatric Urology.  Good luck and hopefully it isnt an issue later!

  • Our son had that and he went home on amoxicillin and they did an ultrasound and another test at 2 wks old.  It was better at that point so we stopped the amoxicillin and had  1 more u/s of his kidneys at 4 months old. By that time, all the dilation had resolved.  Our urologist told us it was common and most of the time resolved on its own.

    This almost exactly.

  • Thanks everyone! I feel even better now :) We'll see what happens!
