Men really frustrate me

Especially DH. He has been sick on and off for weeks now. Of course, it's a huge deal and I end up having the full household responsibility while he goes and lays in bed for hours. I asked about his symptoms and showed concern that it might be something more serious...maybe an ulcer but he doesn't think it's a big deal and won't go see a dr. Ticks me off. So I get to hear the complaining and deal with the kids while he is laid up in bed and he won't even take an hour to make sure it's "no big deal" like he seems to think.

Yesterday, I worked, took E to school, had speech therapy with A, babysat and then he came home and pretty much went to bed after I went and grabbed dinner so I put the kids to bed....all at almost 34 weeks pg, with about 2 hours of sleep. Why can't men just suck it up and do what they need to do. Go to the dr before stuff becomes an emergency and then the crap really hits the fan...like in April when he had to have an emergency appendectomy. Stick out tongue

If you find the answer to this question - wives around the world would pay richly to find out.

  • LOL @ Keri.

I would tell him either he is sick enough to go to the Dr or not sick enough to lay in bed and not help out.

Bwahahahaha - or what?  'Cause sick Todd's answer to that would be a big old crusty and to roll right over on the bed.

This is the prob - there seems to be some sort of "secret option C" in guys' minds, where instead of getting up and playing through the pain, or admitting they need help and going to the doc, it is some how acceptable to instead lay around and whine, and no amount of reasoning is going to change that idea in their minds.

  • I think it might be time for some *cough, cough* labor pains.

  • Throw the kids in the room with him, lock the door and go sit in the living room with a glass of grape juice and some christmas music.

I've done this before.  In your situation, I'd tell him nicely that you are preggo and can't handle the burden anymore- so he needs to go to the doc and/or find some help if he can't man up and do it himself.

  • We woke up yesterday and told me he only got 2 hours of sleep. I got about the same. My back hurts so bad that I can't sleep and have trouble turning over at all. I may need to go sleep in my chair downstairs. I am also congested so I can't breathe well.

He came home last night and told me that his back was killing him. I told him that I was very familiar and he made a comment like... well, if it hurts like this, I feel for ya. Thanks honey. Means a lot. He has NO idea because I rarely complain or if I do, I still get all my crap taken care of. E still goes to school, groceries are still in the cupboards and fridge and his underwear is clean. It must be magic!

  • Robin, it sounds like it's high time for a come-to-Jesus-who-was-a-baby-and-we're-about-to-have-our-third-so-time-to-sack-up meeting.

  • I will say, when he is feeling okay, he has helped out a lot. He has just been sick a lot lately and I really do worry that something might be wrong. I don't get the luxury of a sick day so I am a bit envious that he can stay home from work and veg when he is sick. Every other day, he grabs the kids and plays with them so I can rest or get my work done. I try to nap and rest when the kids do so I get that time that he doesn't. I am just complaining because he seems sick all the time now. =(

  • Is he afraid of the doc typically?  Or maybe afraid of  hearing it might be something serious?

DH has been that way, and I've had to pull the card: "You know, if it were me, you'd kick my as$ all the way to the doctor's office to get this checked out."

Better to know if it's something that can potentially get worse, KWIM?

  • I guess he really doesn't think it's a big deal. It's almost funny because when we got married, he always said I was sick all the time and he was this "bionic" guy that never got sick. After having kids, I am sure I still get sick but my tolerance level is much different so I don't appear as sick anymore...yet he is all the time. Anytime the kids get sick, he does too. I really think he might have an ulcer and I know he has dealt with acid reflux for a while. He went to the dr but I don't think they did enough...he just isn't the kind of person to really push the issue.

    Yes

Maybe that is why they do it - then can take turns being the wife when he is sick!
