Finally finished a quilt I started in 2008!

I started and did about 90% of a quilt way back in 2008.  It was a dragon and fire theme - originally for my then 13 year old.  really just a lounge quilt.

I did the whole top, well, most of it.  I must have ran out of some of the fabric, because there is not a full border or orange.  Oh, well.

My youngest son saw the fabric and asked if I can make him a blanket out of it.  Little did he know if was just about "done"

I decided to just back it with fleece.  Looking at it, there are SOOO many mistakes.  It was probably one of the first quilts that I even tried making.  The OCD crafter in me would LOVE to rip it all apart and do it all over.  THEN the mom of a 5 year old, who won't know anything about mistakes, says "whatever"

  • Congrats on finally finishing it! My MIL has probably started a million quilts and who knows if she'll ever finish...

  • I love that you backed it with fleece.  I never thought about doing that - thanks for the idea.

Well, in the same drawer that this one was in, were 3 more unfinished quilts.  100% of the front is done - never backed.

I sew to relax more than anything else, which is why they were probably never done - I wasn't giving them to anyone lol

depending on the price of the fleece, it could actually be cheaper - you figure you need batting and fabric, so the cost of that could be more expensive than just a piece of fleece.  This is not the super lush fleece, I think it was $3-$4 a yard??

  • So cute!

I remember finishing a sweater that had been on the needles for 4 years. Felt good!

    Hope your DS loves it!

  • My MIL loves the imperfections of my first quilt.  She says they show all of the love and determination I felt when I made it for her.  I'm sure your son will see it the same way - if he even notices them!
