I couldn't make this stuff up (Re: MIL & cancer)
To recap: She was diagnosed with lung cancer. Then her doctor said it wasn't cancer, but a bacterial infection. Then last week they did another biopsy and said it was in fact cancer.
Then her Dr called yesterday and said that no, it's not cancer. They want to do yet another biopsy - I think this would be #4. She told her doctor she's not doing anything else until after the holidays. I don't blame her! This back & forth crap is too much emotionally!
She needs a new doctor. This is getting ridiculous.
Re: I couldn't make this stuff up (Re: MIL & cancer)
My father recently went thru the same thing but was told it might be a lesion.
I want to throat punch the person who would tell someone that it's NOT cancer after a cancer diagnosis without 100% certainty - especially a life long smoker.
Thankfully my dad did find a new doctor and has had his cancer 100% confirmed.
He's smoked all his life. Not like it was a shocker to any of us but the roller coaster of "is it or isn't it" really sucked for him and his wife who gratefully latched on to anything keeping the denial boat afloat.
I hope your MIL gets better news and more importantly I hope she finds a new doc and does so before the holidays.
Time is of the essence if it is in fact cancer.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

Ditto - another doc would be best I think.

Again, I'm no doctor, but diagnosing based on a PET scan??? My doc doesn't even want me to get one more than once a year because they often "light up" places that aren't even anything. This makes me so angry for your mom and your whole family!
I asked H if she's able to get a new doctor, but he said no. I'm not sure why. Perhaps due to her insurance? (Kaiser) I don't know. I get all this info 2nd hand, through H. And while he gets it directly from his mom, she really doesn't understand much of what's going. Thankfully FIL takes care to pay close attention to what the doctors say. (MIL doesn't drive, so he takes her to all her appts.)
I just want them to give her a straight answer already! Oh, and yes, she is local.
