Mall Santas

Which Santa is better this year?  And do any of them let you take your own picture?  I don't really know if I want to fork out the money for their overpriced print.  We were thinking about Jordan Creek just because we have other stuff to do over there.  Thanks!

Re: Mall Santas

  • Last year, VWMall let you take your own picture. (I think) their websites should say.
  • The Valley West Mall one tends to be the most realistic looking and they do let you take your own pics but its a madhouse so get there early!

  • I was also curious about visiting Santa! Has anyone been to the Santa workshop at Bass Pro Shop? I wasn't sure if maybe it would be less busy than the mall santa... I just checked out the VW Mall site and it does say you can take your own photos and videos. The Jordan Creek info says "we politely ask that you not use cameras inside the Santa set."

  • The VW santa is very real looking, and very kind. We have run into him a few times just walking around the mall (yes, we spend too much time there) and he is always very sweet to the girls.  If you have the time, if you go during the day during the week it isnt' busy at all. We've been a couple of times to visit and write letters to him and never had a wait at all.  I want to go back with adam to do the official picture, but not sure i want to fight the crowds when he'd be able to go...

  • They will all let you take your own picture, but you have to stand off to the side.

I personally prefer Valley West. They have a "photo spot" that still lets you frame a good shot, the Santa is friendly, wears a red suit (I think the one at JC looks like he's wearing pajamas) and the photographer has never made us feel bad for not buying their pictures. We always go in the morning on a weekday. Today we went at noon and there was no one else there.

  • The Bass Pro Santa can be extremely busy, but we went on a Wednesday night (I think) and there wasn't a line at all. He was very friendly and realistic looking. You get 1 free print and a free kid's meal at the restaurant. They have crafts (possibly only on weekends though) and several other outdoorsy activities.
  • My brothers told me you have to make appointments to see the Bass Pro Santa. Is this not actually true?

  • A few mentioned Bass Pro....

LOVED HIM.  He was so "realistic" and very gentle with the kids of all ages (I watched him hold infants as well as older toddlers).  There are crafts and you get a free photo (I took my free photo but also snapped a few pics of my own, no problem).

You don't have to make an appointment.  If it's busy, they hand out these cards to tell you when to come back to the line.  So basically they let X amount through at a time so there isn't a massive wait.  Let's say you show up at noon and it's busy, you get a card for 12:35.  This allows you to walk around the store, shop, eat, etc and then come back knowing you'll get in and out afterwards.  Easy peasy!  That being said, we got right in and didn't need to get a card.

It's the same Santa as last year.  (sorry, mini-AW but they're both so cute)

That was what I took.  The one they give is really cute too.

  • Ditto Molly. He Bass Pro Santa is awesome. Such a nice guy and seriously looks like the real deal. No appointment necessary. They just use the 'bass pass" if the lines get long so you don't have to wait in line forever.

  • Thanks so much! Think we will hit up Bass Pro so we can use the bass pass. Sounds more appealing than standing still in line!
