Wow - whatever happened to respect and communication?

http://news.yahoo.com/calif-prison-psychologist-accused-faking-rape-204223257.html

So is it just me, or if you're willing to fake a rape to get your husband to finally agree to move to a safer neighborhood, then maybe your marriage is already past saving? Obviously she's the bad guy in this story, because doing something like that is just wrong and trivializes all of the real rape cases out there, but I can't imagine her husband was the greatest, either.

If you were adamant about moving to a safer neighborhood, would your husband agree even if he didn't feel your current one was unsafe? I'm 99% sure mine would if I was serious about it.

Re: Wow - whatever happened to respect and communication?

  • I don't know, honestly. It depends on what caused me to feel unsafe. If I said I felt unsafe because, like, I one time saw a guy who looked sketchy, he'd probably tell me to stop being such a worry wart. If it was because there had been multiple robberies or crimes in the neighborhood or something like that, he'd agree to move.

It would still be like 2 years before we'd actually move though because DH is incredibly deliberate and would insist on researching every. little. thing. about a new apartment and neighborhood, talking to all his friends and coworkers, and pondering over the decision for months on end. I on the other hand would choose a place, pack, and be moved within 2 months if it were all up to me :)

Fortunately, while nothing special and despite being in a city with a very bad rep for safety, our current neighborhood is quite safe, quiet and mainly residential.

  • Go figure they filed for divorce six weeks after the fake rape. My guess is the husband had a pretty good idea she wasn't being honest.

I'm pretty sure my DH would agree to move if I felt the current one was unsafe and it was reasonable. If I was being unreasonabley scared of everything he'd focus on getting me help. If there really were issues in the neighborhood that made me unsafe, affected normal life, and especially if it affected our children, then he would support moving.
