Signing the birth certificate?

So DH's deployment just got pushed up and now he won't be there for the birth.  I am just wondering if he would just sign her birth certificate when he gets back or is there another option?

For those of you whose DH couldn't be there for the birth what did you do?

Re: Signing the birth certificate?

  • There was nothing for my H to sign. The only info I had to provide was my own. I'm sorry he's going to be gone

Hmm... weird, I have always seen a place for the father... and thanks, I'm hoping that the date gets moved again so he can be there (but I'm not holding my breath).

At least in MD paternity is implied by marriage. All I had to do was check the box that I was married.

  • Thanks ladies.  I checked and in NC there is no place for the father.  I'm still waiting to hear back from IN (since I'm not sure where I'll be having her yet) to see what is there.

  • In Indiana, there is no place for the father to sign per my mother but that was over 22 years ago.

Thanks, I just got off the phone with the hospital I would deliver at.  They told me there was no place for the father to sign either.

I'm from southern Indiana. Like 45 minutes from Louisville, KY. Is that where you're from?

No, I'm from Lafayette (so 45mins north of Indy, where Purdue is).  We are currently stationed out here in NC but if DH leaves as early as they say they are, I'm coming home to have the baby.

I meant Indiana in general. Go Hoosiers! I have a friend graduating pharmacy school from purdue but my sisters attended IU so boilermakers suck in my opinion. : ). My dad actually now lives in fishers, east of Indy. I lived in Goldsboro, NC for about two years. The drive home was a biitch.

Bleh Hossiers. I'm a Purdue Grad. Although, I hear the Hoosiers did play a great game tonight.  Yes, the drive home is a biotch.

Do you go the toll way through WV or the west then straight up way through TN and Kentucky? I found going the West then north way was faster time wise even though it is a longer distance plus no tolls. It took me roughly 10 hours compared to 11 1/2.

I actually took the toll way through WV.  Hmm... I think I'm going home to visit in Feb.  I might have to take that way!  I almost got killed by a deer crossing the highway in WV..... so bypassing WV would be nice haha!

Remind me and I'll look at a map and tell you the exact route I used to take. The toll way used to frustrate me to tears.
