How do you refer to the person you're dating?
BF?
SO?
something else?
someone recently told me that boyfriend is not appropriate out of high school, but I don't see what is wrong with it...
Re: How do you refer to the person you're dating?
Online= SO
In real life= Boyfriend
My lover
Just kidding... I call him my boyfriend
BF... Sometimes if the situation calls for something more "formal" sounding we use fiance... I was once told to refer to him as my life partner or significant other and it didn't matter if it made me sound like a lesbian because boyfriend seems to informal and not serious lol!
PBear your siggy pic makes me laugh!
Boyfriend.
Online, he's the FF (firefighter).
I say boyfriend.
But this makes me think of an early episode of Six Feet Under, where Nate introduces Brenda as his girlfriend, and she says, "I prefer the term fvck puppet." I sometimes think about saying that, just for funsies.
So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.
Love that show! Too funny!
Boyfriend.
What other term do you use? SO just seems to formal and hot guy that I like to fvck seems inappropriate.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has a hard time saying boyfriend post-divorce. I dont know why it seems weird or foreign to me. I often say "the guy i'm dating" or "seeing" ... those who know me know him by name. Online here I will say SO or BF...
Maybe because I had somebody who I called a husband (even if he didn't act the part) ? I don't know... lol .. I'm just happy to be with my guy now.
Polar opposite of xh and that's bliss.
BF when we are together for closer to a full year and living together I wil call him my SO (online).
I call him my BF IRL.
ETA: The older couple that lives next to me are not married, but have been together for 20 years. They call each other "soulmates". With them it is cute cause they are in their 70's. When I met the guy he said this:
"Hello my name is B, welcome to the neighborhood! I live next door with my soulmate D. Let us know if you need anything."
Like I said... cute for them, but weird if you are younger than 70 years old, lol.
