How to de-smell ballet flats?

I wear the same few pairs every day to work, and they're starting to get smelly. I don't wear socks with them. Can I pour baking soda in them, and leave it for a few days?

make sure they are complely dry before putting them away, You can put some baking soda in them to try and combat the current smellies. I learned a trick from a co-worker, put a balled up piece of news paper w/a dryer sheet in the toes of each shoe after you take them off. The paper absorbs the moisture and the dryer sheets makes them smell clean!

Love Manda's tip. Generally I agree you need to allow them to dry, I would have more than one pair of shoes in your rotation if you are not wearing socks.

We sprinkle Gold Bond foot powder in them when we take them off, or sometimes before putting them on if not wearing socks. (The latter applies only to me... DH always wears socks.)

As long as I'm wearing long pants, I always wear knee highs to keep my shoes from getting gross. I guess they're old lady, but no one sees them but me, and my shoes stay clean. They make a big difference.

I had a few pairs from Target that had this problem. Newspaper didn't solve the issue, and baking soda kind-of worked.

They weren't expensive so I just buy new pairs every six months or so, and now I wear the little footies with my flats.

I was going to suggest dryer sheets. They tend to take away the smell. Also, have you thought about using febreeze? I spray that in my shoe and throw in the dryer sheet and that tends to work.

You should start putting deodorant on the bottom of your feet when you wear flats. This completely takes care of the smell.

My friends and I always have this problem too. I rotate shoes so I don't wear the same ones two days in a row. I spray them with lysol or lysol fabric spray which will kill the bacteria that is causing the smell. You can also take a cotton ball with alcohol on it and clean the inside which does the same thing. I also use spray deoderant on occasion, but put it on my feet instead of in my shoes.
