It itches sooo bad! (quit smoking whine)

My nicotine patches are starting to really really bug me! I'm over halfway through the program (I've quit more than a month ago already! yay!) but those patches are starting to itch so so so bad!

I still have 2 more weeks of using patches to go, it'll be a lower dosage starting Sunday, so that might help.

I'm committed to quitting, so I'll keep going, but right now, I kinda want to rip my skin off!

  • Wow! Congrats on quitting smoking! That's great!

Can you switch arms or something for your patch?

We're headed to the Maldives on Christmas Eve!

  • I have no advice at all but wanted to say good job! I can't imagine how hard it is to quit, so congrats on the great job so far!

  • I remember quitting smoking, it is tough!  I quit almost six years ago and I am so glad I did.

Just remember it gets better.  Think of all the cravings, itchingness and plan annoyance that quitting smoking has made you experience in the last few days.  Remember that was for something, it would all go to waste if you went back to smoking now.

Also, I tried to focus on all the money I would save.  At the time I quit cigs were $4.85 per pack and I was smoking four to five packs per week.  So $4.86 X 5 = $24.25 per week times 52 weeks = $1,261 spent on smoking per year!  I focused on a trip I wanted to take with DH and that helped!  We paid for it with my cigs money!

Good luck, I promise the cravings will go away and you will feel great.  I know you can do it!

  • Thanks for all the encouraging words. I do swich between both my arms and both my shoulder blades, but by now 3 days rest between patches apparently doesn't really do it anymore.

Oh well, as Coffee&Cream said, it will be worth it in the end. We'll actually end up saving much more as

a- cigs have gotten much more expensive

    b - we both quit

c - after 2 years of non smoking we can change our life insurance status to non-smoking which saves us half of our premium (which is another 100 a month)

At the current price of cigs in NL and calculating the insurance premium, we'll save about 4K a year. Now that's incentive! (should've done this math sooner!)

  • Try placing your patches on your lower back and on your hip as well. I put mine there when the itching on my arms and shoulders starts driving me crazy.

  • I'm so glad you're doing so well!! I know a friend of mine put the patches on her hip, she said it was better that way. Maybe that would help?

Sending you tons of vibes... I promise, it gets easier!

  • I've been putting them on my hips yesterday and today, it does help a little. I did that in the beginning, but when I first did that, that was actually worse than my shoulders/arms. Oh well.

Today I started with the lowest dosage patch. Only 2 more weeks until I'm done with the patches!!!
