Cricut mat

So I received my Cricut Friday night. Please tell me the mat gets easier to work with the more I use it. Is there a trick to getting the paper off when it is brand new? My paper was just ripping to shreds the more I tried to pull it off. And I was doing it slowly and carefully.

Other than that, I'm pretty excited about it. It came with 3 carts, and I had already purchased 2 while waiting for it to arrive!

Re: Cricut mat

  • They do. I would also recommend getting a spatula if you don't have one already that helps a lot!

  • I do have a spatula, which made getting the cutouts off easier, just getting the rest of the paper is kicking my butt. Thanks!!!

  • Yeah, I really dislike new mats.  It does get easier as the mat gets worn in.

  • When I first get a mat, I will "pat" the map down with my hands. It tends to help a little bit. I also always try to make my first few cuts using a thicker cardstock. It holds up a little bit better when the mats are their stickiest.
  • You can put your hand all over it to get off some of the stickiness, or you can pat it with a non-lint cloth like an old t-shirt, to remove some of it.

  • I just kinda press it against my chest/shirt a couple times and that really helps.

  • Definitely pat it something on it.  I do this after I re-stick my mats as well.
