Probably flameworthy...

My best friend from HS proposed to his gf on Saturday [found out Sunday via Facebook].  I was rather surprised at the announcement, one because he told her dad he wasn't proposing until after Christmas, and two, DH and I were the ones to take him ring shopping and were there when he bought the ring, and I guess I figured he would have told us he was doing it.

My reaction was, to put it mildly, less than appropriate.  Then my reaction to that was, WTF, why am I acting like that?

Thoughts?

I truly am happy for them, so what's my problem?

Re: Probably flameworthy...

  • Hmmm interesting. Maybe it's just your expectations weren't met. You thought you'd be "in the know" about the proposal since you new about the ring, and then you found out 2nd hand?

And who knows, maybe the perfect moment presented itself, so he proposed early rather than waiting.

  • Not flame worthy!

I would 100% agree with Mary!

  • I think I may have also had a revelation that he's becoming someone I've never know before-- he's always been the great wingman [for me, for Jason]-- and I think I'm terrified that I'll lose him in that supporting role in my life [totally selfish, I know].

But Jason just text me and said something profoundly encouraging, "You don't have to let go, you just have to find a new way to hold on."

  • I am in agreement with Mary.  The moment may have been perfect for him to propose.  At the same time though, you did know about it since you went shopping with him.  It just didn't happen as planned.
