BWLO: Vitamins?

DO your LOs take them?  Was it something your Pedi suggested?

Jane's eating has been terrible lately (ie only fruit & other carbs, pretty) so I've been thinking about it lately but or Pedi has never mentioned.  Of course I was just there last week and didn't think to ask then.

Re: BWLO: Vitamins?

  • Yes, poly-vi-sol... it was recommended when he was BF and since we just quit a couple of months ago (and it was getting cold out) she said to go ahead and continue it through the winter months and then we'll probably switch to a chewable. From what I understand, a lot of pediatricians have varying opinions of this so I'd just call and she what she says if you're concerned. :)
  • Nope.  Pedi only suggested it while I was BF Abby.  Luckily my girls are good eaters and eat fruit/veggie, dairy, protein, and carb with every meal.
  • I am planning on getting Alex some for Christmas. I figure H and I both take them, and I haven't been offering her the best food options lately, so it couldn't hurt. Our pedi didn't suggest it, but he doesn't suggest much helpful anyway. We finally switched to a new pedi, but Alex doesn't have an appointment in the near future, so I'm just going with what I think at this point.
  • Yep. Neena is obsessed with her vitamins. We used to give her the Nordic Berries (gummy vitamins) but those got too expensive so now we give her chewables from our local health food store. In the morning she goes straight to the cupboard where we keep them and pretty much yells, "VIMINS, VIMINS!"

  • Taryn takes Flintstones gummies and LOVES them. She actually throws a fit when she can only have one a day!

Tessa gets vitamin D since I'm breastfeeding and doesn't get much sunlight, there's not much in breastmilk, etc, as suggested by her pedi.

I am very jealous.  Jane would live on fruit or dairy or bread, if we let her.

  • Kellen gets a gummy vitamin every day. He loves them and hates that he only gets one. He doesn't eat a wide variety of food either.
  • Logan gets half of a chewable every morning. Our pedi didn't recommend it, we just started giving it to him when he always wanted mine or DH's. We use a Target brand chewable, they're fun animal shapes!

  • We use animal parade from whole foods as recommended by our pedi. They are chewables and so far he likes them!

  • It's not going to hurt them.  Other than vitamins A, D, E, and K, if the body doesn't need it, it'll just pee it out.  The ADEK vitamins are stored in fat, so the body absorbs them and stores them for later.  It is VERY VERY hard for kids to get vitamin overload of the ADEK, they'd have to eat like a 2-3 whole bottles of just vitamin A to be worried they're taking too much.
