Parker woke up from a nap today and once I got him changed and downstairs he started shaking (kinda like shivering). We just thought he was cold so we went on with our day. My dad is in town so we went downtown to do some shopping. By the time we got to the first store he was still shaking, his hands and lips were ice cold and purple and his head and back we on fire. We left immediately and went to the ER. They took his temp and it was 103. Poor guy has never had a fever before and I just broke down. They weighed him and he was a 1 and a 1/2 pound less than he was a week ago. They gave him some meds and took a chest xray to rule out pnuemonia (I'm prone to pneumonia so it is standard). It took several hours, but his temp finally came down. They finally let us go home even though he still had a temp (it had gone down to 101). I have to get him up every 4 hours to give him more meds.
I feel horrible. I can't help but think that he is sick because I quit nursing. And I feel bad because my dad and step-mom are here for the first time in 2.5 years and our plans got ruined today. I probably won't see them again for at least a year and they have only been here since Friday night. Hopefully, I will get to see them in the morning before they leave.
The only good thing is that I can't take him to daycare tomorrow so we get to cuddle all day!
Re: First visit to the ER
Awe, Tara don't blame yourself!!! These things happen, and I'll guarantee you'll never meet a mom whose kids never got sick.
I'm sorry that Parker isn't feeling good! It must have been so scary, especially with the weight loss. Give him extra cuddles while he's not feeling well, I hope he gets feeling better soon and the fever goes down quickly! Keep us updated
Fevers are just scary to begin with, but then with your situation!? Ugh!
I've felt the same guilt about stopping breast feeding too. I'm just waiting for KR to get sick and the doctor to ask why I stopped
. You are a good mama. Babies get sick. I'm glad he's okay. I love stay at home sick days with KR. All they want to do is snuggle with you
Don't blame yourself. Kids get sick. Julia had a fever of 103 and was vomiting a few weeks ago and I'm still nursing her, so I don't think it has anything to do with that. It's scary, but he will be okay!
Feel better, Parker!!!
I'm pretty much going to ditto what everyone else has said. Babies get sick. You are still a fantastic mom!
Enjoy your cuddle day and I hope Parker starts feeling better soon!

Don't blame yourself!
Poor Parker though! Glad he is on the mend.
Thanks everyone! I know you are all right, it is just hard to convince myself of that!
His temp this morning is down to 100.1 which isn't a fever so that is good. Hopefully it will stay down even when I stop giving him meds.
Poor guy, and you!
I know there is a nasty bug going around here, high temp, shakes, etc... Don't beat yourself up about stopping breastfeeding. Kids are getting sick left and right this time of year, breast fed or not.
