Stainless steel cleaner

Our new fridge is stainless steel and we don't have any other stainless steel appliances.  What do you like to clean your ss with?  Any recommendations on how to keep it looking clean?  I'd love something natural but I'm down with the evil chemicals too.

Re: Stainless steel cleaner

  • i use the method anti-bacterial that i use all around our kitchen on it and then shine it up with a quick squirt of the devil i know as windex.  windex shines all of our stainless stuff so well and doesn't streak like a biatch.

    good luck!

  • I would have never thought to use Windex.  I know nothing about stainless steel.  Thanks!  I also have method for my everyday cleaning.
  • I have tried several stainless cleaners and they all leave a film behind. I'm going to have to try windex. Thanks!

  • A swipe of distilled white vinegar will work.  You can dilute it with water 50/50.

  • heather used something different- there was a post a long time ago about it.  but i really like the windex.  it was a quick someone is coming over and i already have it in my hand thing- and it worked.  so now i just use it.

  • IM always looking for a "green" alternative but for now we use this stainless steel cleaner spray that we bought at Best Buy. I think its somewhat green but not totally natural. It works really well but the key is to use a microfiber or cotton cloth of sorts and really press hard like you are "wax on, wax off"-ing.

  • Sun and Earth Glass Cleaner.  Works great, believe it or not. We use it mostly on our stainless stove, since that gets dirty from cooking more frequently than our fridge, but we also use it on our dishwasher, too.

And I'm not down with the chemicals, either.

  • we used vinegar in our old place.
  • The best on I've used is Simple Green SS cleaner from Lowes

  • I bought SS wipes in Target that I only use when it is really bad.

I have been using Mrs. Meyer's countertop spray on them and I have found it works better than Windex.   Mrs. Meyer's is supposedly safe for the environment.  I am in love with the Basil scent, so much so I just ordered the Basil room spray right from the company.

  • I don't have anything SS, but I LOVE Method's granite cleaner for my countertops and my stove.  I imagine their SS cleaner is good too.

Am I remembering right they sell Mrs. Meyer's in Target?  I love Basil scented anything.

Target is where I got the countertop spray, dish soap and hand soap.  I then ordered the bath soap, room spray, window cleaner, laundry detergent and cleanser right from the company because I love the scent so much and I couldn't find the other products anywhere. Next I will try the dryer sheets, dishwashing capsules and multi-purpose cleaner (which you can dilute with water to refill the countertop spray bottle).  It doesn't really smell like basil per se, but I love whatever it smells like.

I also have a whole bunch of Melalucea products my brother won for me last year, but they smell a little like chemicals to me.

  • I just use regular, plain old Pledge. NOT the "all-in-one" one though. Windex, for me, streaks like a biitch. I can't use Windex at all.

I feel like not all stainless steel is the same because I'll clean my fridge, microwave, oven and dish washer with Pledge and it comes out looking perfect. When I tried using it on my mom's fridge, however, it was getting streaky. I'm not sure if it has to do with a different type of stainless or if she had previous cleaner residue on there but mine came up much better than hers. If you try pledge, don't go too crazy with it because you don't want a buildup to occur. Pledge works perfect in my house where Hunter has hand prints ALL over the fridge.

To clean it I'll use the 50/50 vinegar and water but then as a final touch, I'll go over it with the Pledge and BOOM! Good as new.
