New Homeowner's gift basket

My sister is closing on her first condo this week, and it needs a lot of work. For Christmas, I thought I'd get her a new homeowner's basket filled with things you always need for a new house. So far, I have...

- Paintbrushes (we are constantly buying them!!)
- Lightbulbs
- Wall hangers
- Home depot gift card

I have to mail it, so nothing too big. I figure I can walk up and down the aisles at Home Depot, but I want to hear what you guys needed in the first six months of home ownership. What else would you put in there?

Re: New Homeowner's gift basket

  • Welcome mat was one of my favorite new homeowner gifts I got.
    Lilypie Third Birthday tickers
  • Cordless drill and this bulls eye level thing were two of our most used items.
  • We always get a fire extinguisher. It's not very romantic, but it is practical and an important thing that everyone should keep in the kitchen...

ETA: I totally missed the mailing part. Maybe order a fire extinguisher from Amazon and have it shipped? Of course that would defeat the purpose of a basket.

  • Since its being mailed. Magic erasers, duct tape, crazy glue, an all in one hammer/screwdriver, measuring tape, command hooks, dish towels/rags, microfiber cloth, candles, folders (for receipts/i important papers) trash bags, pain reliever, heating pad/patches. If she has hardwood floors the floor protector pads and a swifter. Hand soap for bathrooms.
  • That should say swiffer not swifter. Stupid autocorrect
  • I like what everyone else has suggested and I would add flashlights/batteries.

  • Ditto on everything, especially a level and a fire extinguisher (although that would be hard to mail!).

To go with paint brushes, how about a tube of nail hole patch, roller sleeves, blue tape, etc.
