I'm feeling ass-like because I overspent on DH for Christmas. Like, more than doubled the budget... but he's been through a lot with me over the last few weeks... months... and I just wanted to spoil him. And I'm diseased, so he can't get mad.
Thank you for all of the kind words of encouragement and thoughts on my last post. I wanted to respond, but I kind of couldn't. It was a mix of not knowing what to say and being really touched at a lot of the things that you guys were saying - Enidfalcor, you really made me think and I appreciated your and all of your comments and well wishes.
I'm feeling better, my eyepatch is off, my scars are healing and my face has healed to the point that you can only tell something is wrong if you know me really well. My eyes are still green and strange looking, but hey, it's a conversation starter! That, and I'm completely winded walking from the car to the house, but getting stronger every day.
My mother in law flew in while I was in the hospital to help, and she didn't bring her paparazza camera to the hospital. I was very grateful. She has unleashed it in all it's fury since I've been home, but every time I moan about it to DH he reminds me that my mother is partying it up in Las Vegas while his is in London - and even the "I'm diseased, you can't get mad" spiel doesn't work against that one.
So I'm doing better, back at work next week part time and we're off today in search of a decent Sunday brunch because mashed potatoes go down easy with my cancer meds. How lame is it that the number one thing on my Christmas list this year has changed from a pink ukelele to "a nice pill organizer"?
I think I'm going to go shave the dog outside on the lawn so it looks like it is snowing for the girls. Mom of the year, right here! Mom of the year!

Re: I'm diseased, so he can't get mad
I haven't been keeping up with the board much lately, but I'm glad you're feeling better! I like your snowing plan for the girls.
Oh, and your H for sure can't get mad about going overbudget! Hope he loves his gift.
You make me smile! : ) No one can ever say you don't have a good attitude. I hope you find a good brunch!
So happy you're doing better!!!! And don't worry about the overspending, unless that means you can't buy food anymore or something
And wow, that's amazing that your MIL actually flew out to help. REally cool, despite the paparazzi camera!

What I'm looking forward to in 2012:
Eating our way through (northern) Italy on vacation

I think its lovely that you are spoiling him a bit - great to hear that you have such a great dh and he's been so supportive of you. Nice that your MIL is there even though she's driving you mad, I'm sure the help with the girls is nice.
Take care of yourself, don't work too hard!
Candace - I missed a lot of what was going on as it was going on and have just caught up this weekend. I am SO glad you are home and have a diagnosis and are on the road to recovery. I am so happy for you and your DH and your girls. I think you ALL deserve to be a LOT spoiled this year. What a scary thing to go through and you have shown such amazing courage and strength to come through it with your sense of humor intact.
Hope you got your Sunday brunch and that your MIL puts away her camera for a little while as an early Christmas present for you.
I like to think of a budget as a starter, a jumping off point, and obviously several large governments do too, so you?re in good company!
Glad you?re starting to feel better. The shaving the dog idea is a good one, might have to try it myself if it doesn?t snow here soon. Keep the laughs coming!!
Yay for no eyepatch and your face healing well and looking good. Are the green eyes scarey or catlike? I love green eyes, so although I have never met you, green eyes and blonde hair looks hot!!
Enjoy your time with your family and just being able to be there. MIL has to at least keep you out of the photos. After all you have been through. Sure take photos of the girls, but she has got to let you off the hook.
Ha, turns out there was nothing to worry about ( well, except paying for food now maybe ) because I told him that I overspent - he demanded to know the amount so he can match it to be fair.
And then he called me from ASDA because he wanted to spend another ?50 on the kids for matching trikes. Good grief.
I'm back at work and it feels great to be using my brain and focusing on other things right now.
We're probably even going to go get a Christmas tree tonight - if the guy lets us put the kids through the Christmas tree condom machine I'll be sure to post a video.
Chronically hilarious - you'll split your stitches!
I wrote a book! Bucket list CHECK!
