Holiday cards poll

Do you send holiday cards in December? (Christmas, Hannukah, Happy New Year, Seasons Greetings, Happy Kwanzaa, etc)

How many cards do you usually receive each year?

What do you do with the cards you receive?

If you send cards:

Do you do photo cards, store bought cards, or home-made cards?

When do you aim to mail them by?

When do you usually get them mailed?

Do you write personal notes in each?

Do you write a "newsletter"?

How many cards do you send?

Who is on your list?

Re: Holiday cards poll

  • Do you send holiday cards in December? (Christmas, Hannukah, Happy New Year, Seasons Greetings, Happy Kwanzaa, etc) Yes.

How many cards do you usually receive each year?  I'd guess maybe 30.

What do you do with the cards you receive? I tape them up on the wall in the shape of a tree.  After Christmas I throw them in a box.

    If you send cards:

Do you do photo cards, store bought cards, or home-made cards? Store bought cards.  I made my own one year and it was just too much work.  This year I am putting in a photo collage of our dog, but I couldn't bring myself to do the full photo card thing for "just" a dog.

When do you aim to mail them by? I'd like to get them mailed by 12/15 or so.

When do you usually get them mailed? Most years I am on schedule.  This year it will be more likely that they get mailed this weekend or Monday.

Do you write personal notes in each? Only for the people we don't see/email/call often.

Do you write a "newsletter"? No.

How many cards do you send? It's looking like close to 50 this year.

Who is on your list? Immediate family, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and the adult cousins we are closest to.  Close friends from college and high school, too, even if we don't really talk anymore.  I like to let them know we are thinking of them.

  • Do you send holiday cards in December? (Christmas, Hannukah, Happy New Year, Seasons Greetings, Happy Kwanzaa, etc)

    Yes

How many cards do you usually receive each year? about 45-50, I think

What do you do with the cards you receive? I have them taped/displayed on the counter in the "window" between the kitchen and living room.

    If you send cards:

Do you do photo cards, store bought cards, or home-made cards?

When do you aim to mail them by? I hope to have them ordered this week, so shipped ASAP!

When do you usually get them mailed? I'm usually nice and early- by the first weekend of Dec

Do you write personal notes in each? I always write at least something- if even "Merry Christmas!" or "I hope you, Rob, and Aidan are doing well!"

Do you write a "newsletter"? Nope

How many cards do you send? About 50

Who is on your list? Family and friends

  • Yes

    Probably 50+

    Photo cards

Whenever I get them out the door. They go out in waves

    See above

    Yes. I hate blank cards

    Sometimes, but it's very brief

    75-100

    Friends and family

  • Do you send holiday cards in December? Yep

How many cards do you usually receive each year? I don't know, but dozens

What do you do with the cards you receive? We have two half-pillars between our living room and family room.  I tie a string around the top of both that dangles to the floor and clip the cards to the string, creating a sort of hanging tower of cards.

Do you do photo cards, store bought cards, or home-made cards? We did photo cards the year we got married because after invitations and thank yous there was no way I was writing Xmas cards too.  Otherwise, every other year I've sent boxed cards.

When do you aim to mail them by? Before Christmas Wink

When do you usually get them mailed? Some years I'm really on top of it and get them out early in the month.  Others are like this year--haven't started a single one yet.

Do you write personal notes in each? Yep, so they take me forever.

Do you write a "newsletter"? No.

How many cards do you send? A bajillion.  At least it feels like it.  I tried to pare down the list last year, but I think I'm still at maybe 75-80?

Who is on your list? Um, maybe who isn't on my list would be a shorter answer.

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

I used to, but last year, we moved the week after Christmas, so I just never got to them. This year, I have no excuse, but I haven't gotten to them. We'll probably skip them again, though I do owe my great aunt a note.

How many cards do you usually receive each year?
Hmm, a dozen or so? I don't really know.

What do you do with the cards you receive?
Oh man, this is going to make me sound terrible, but they usually stay in a pile until it's time to toss them. The exception is usually the card from my SIL, because it's pretty much the only time we get actual photos of our nieces. (She's not so good with the photo thing. We print most of them off Facebook.)

If you send cards: (I'll go by if/when I did)

Do you do photo cards, store bought cards, or home-made cards?
    Store bought, usually something humorous.

When do you aim to mail them by?
    The week before Christmas.

When do you usually get them mailed?
    Two days before Christmas.

Do you write personal notes in each?
    yes, but short things.

    Do you write a "newsletter"?
    No way.

How many cards do you send?
A dozen or two, depends on the year.

    Who is on your list?
Friends and some relatives, (like my aunt who lives in TN, and a couple of my great aunts). No one we'd buy a Christmas present for, though.

  • Do you send holiday cards in December? (Christmas, Hannukah, Happy New Year, Seasons Greetings, Happy Kwanzaa, etc) Yes.

How many cards do you usually receive each year?  50ish.

What do you do with the cards you receive? I tape them on the side of the pantry cabinet.

    If you send cards:

Do you do photo cards, store bought cards, or home-made cards? Photo cards

When do you aim to mail them by? I am expecting them to arrive tomorrow so I'll mail them by the end of the week.

When do you usually get them mailed? Before Christmas!

Do you write personal notes in each? No.

Do you write a "newsletter"? No.

How many cards do you send? 90-100

Who is on your list? Everyone whose address I have. Our wedding guest list, plus whoever we've added since.

  • I am feeling very guilty about this, but I did not send out cards this year.  I always have in the past and take pride in remembering everyone in both families.  I hope everyone understands.  Plus, I bought cards last year and totally left them in PA, which I was really mad about.  Along with my address book.  Makes sending cards difficult.

  • Do you send holiday cards in December? I did this year and 2 years ago when we bought our house. I was going to last year with pics from Hawaii but my lab was moving the beginning of December and I was so stressed out from it that I never did.

How many cards do you usually receive each year? Maybe a dozen or so? Not too many of my friends have started sending them yet (most do not have kids, and some are still not married).

What do you do with the cards you receive? They are on the dining room table. I will be moving them downstairs to display when people are here for Christmas.

    If you send cards:

Do you do photo cards, store bought cards, or home-made cards? Photo cards, both years.

When do you aim to mail them by? No specific date. I try to order them the first week of December.

When do you usually get them mailed? Just got most of them in the mail today. Have a few more addresses I'm waiting on.

Do you write personal notes in each? No since it is just the photo card.

Do you write a "newsletter"? No. My mom does.

How many cards do you send? I sent about 40 this year.

Who is on your list? Family and close friends. It is hard because I have a big family and now that most of my cousins don't live at home I want to send them their own cards too, so the numbers (and cost) add up quickly.

  • Wow, I thought sending 50 was a lot, I can't believe how many of you are up to 100.  Pup, I think your family and friends will understand that you have a lot going on.  I wouldn't worry about it.

I agree that it seems like a lot, but we had 70 invitations to our wedding. If we liked them enough 4 years ago to put them on the wedding list, they are still on the Christmas card list. Add in coworkers, friends met since, etc. and we're at 90ish cards.

It's a lot, but at least the cards cost less the more you order lol

But the stamps stay the same!  That's where it gets expensive, IMO.

My extended family is huge and all local so my wedding invite list was out of control.  I let my mom handle sending cards to those relatives on my behalf.  Usually she does a photo card that I am in with my siblings every year, so it is kind of like they are getting one from me.  Or at least that's how I rationalize it.

Kind of the same situation here. Some of our wedding guests were friends and neighbors of our parents. My mom always sends out a photo card (which will have one of the two pictures from our photo card) and a letter to everyone so they will already know what's going on with us.

  • Do you send holiday cards in December? (Christmas, Hannukah, Happy New Year, Seasons Greetings, Happy Kwanzaa, etc) Christmas cards

How many cards do you usually receive each year? probably between 20 and 40 depending on the year

What do you do with the cards you receive? We hang them up on a string with these little mini Christmas clothespins until we take down the decorations.  Then we save some of the picture cards (esp family and close friends) and recycle the rest.

    If you send cards:

Do you do photo cards, store bought cards, or home-made cards? photo cards

When do you aim to mail them by? I would like to do it about 2 weeks before Christmas ..... realistically they will go in the mail late next week because we just ordered them on Sunday (one of these years we will take pictures early like I always try to plan it).

When do you usually get them mailed? haha ... see above

Do you write personal notes in each? in an ideal world sure ... but no ... we don't

Do you write a "newsletter"? definitely not ... I think I did once, the year I graduated from college and went to grad school when I thought my life was "Oh So Exciting!"

How many cards do you send? about 50

Who is on your list? family and close friends, a few work connections and local store owners we are close to
