Remember last year....

When we sent ornaments to one another. We just put our tree up last night and I found the ornaments from Rienedumonde. Still so cute and pretty. I thought to myself wow, I wonder what everyone is doing this Christmas. Seems like it's been a big year for a lot of us. So what's the Christmas plans? What are you getting for DH? Have you asked for anything? Anyone travelling?

  • Im not really in the Christmas spirit this year. I'm being scrooge and havent even decorated or put up a tree and I'm not this year. We have been having fertility issues and have to move onto IVF, so that will be our gift to each other since it is so expensive. We will go to my DH's parents house on christmas eve and christmas morning.

  • I am almost done with my shopping and DH and I decorated right after Thanksgiving, I have been busy with work and finishing my thesis so I feel like everything is just flying by.

I bought DH a golf club he wanted and a few odds and ends. My parents split up in August so I feel like I am going overboard present-wise with my family because of that.

There was a nice right hand ring that I saw that I asked DH for, he goes shopping so late thought that I doubt it will still be around!

  • I got DH snowshoes at the end of the season last year so he's been done since spring!  :)  My parents took my entire family to Florida 2 weeks ago as our Christmas present (it was fantastic!!  I want to go back!)  so we're done on that side of things.

I am also feeling a little scroogey.  I really do not get a lot of enjoyment from spending time with my extended IL family.  Some of DH's cousins are just really strange and one of them has a boyfriend who seriously skeeves me out.  Like if we got stuck in a room together I would probably be looking for the nearest unlocked window to crawl out of if he got near me.  We're also having trouble getting pregnant (just starting testing to figure out why) and one of DH's cousins is pregnant with an "oops, I guess I didnt' take the pill as prescribed" baby.  I am really struggling with being happy when inside I'm totally jealous but also kinda mad that we've been ready to have a kid for a year and then she goes and gets pregnant on a lark.  I know, it is irrational to be mad about it and I would never act anything less than thrilled for her but it certainly zings a bit.

They also decided to stop doing a gift exchange which I was all for but then some of DH's other cousins whined (they're in HS still) about how it isn't Christmas without gifts so their mom is trying to get everyone to do it again.  We declined.  I am just sorta over the whole big gathering thing with them and am looking forward to the day when it goes down to nuclear family only for celebrating.  They, as a whole family, don't drink either so it isn't like I can enjoy a celebratory cocktail to reward myself for my infinite patience with them.  Angel

  • We're hosting Christmas at our house this year for the first time. It was supposed to be just my parents coming down, now my uncle and 2 cousins are coming too. We're going to have a full house. I'm excited to have them all but a little overwhelmed. My house is a mess and every time I clean it is like a hurricane comes through 5 minutes later. Welcome to life with a 14 month old? Sigh.

Plus, now the only person still in Vermont will be my brother. He'll be with his gf and her 2 kids, but I think he is bummed he can't come down (he doesn't have enough leave from work since he started a new job a few months ago)...but I couldn't go to VT for the same reason and my parents have been planning on coming down here for the holidays since the summer.

I'm getting excited, though. Does anyone want to come clean/help me wrap presents? :p

Does anyone want to come clean/help me wrap presents? :p

I do!  Wrapping is one of my all time favorite things to do--silly, I know.

We don't celebrate Christmas, but I still like buying people gifts.  Plus my mom's bday is 12/25.  Amazon had a best of Alfred Hitchcock type dvd set a few months ago; so, I bought that for DH.  I still haven't found my mom's bday gift(s).

Also, now that we have the house on top of our condo (that we rent), we're cleaning it up and starting renovations along with everyday chores.  We didn't even have time to go grocery shopping this weekend. :(  My office closes the last week of the year; so, I'll be chugging away at tasks at the new house over Christmas, I'm sure.

    Matt loves Munkii!!!
  • I was thinking about the ornaments this weekend -- something triggered it somehow.  I wasn't able to participate last year because things were too busy but I was thinking of it nonetheless.  Smile

Christmas plans are Christmas Eve brunch with DH's mom, sister and her hubby at our house.  DH is speaking at three Christmas Eve Services (I'll probably watch the babies in the nursery for two and go to one).  If we're not too tired after all that, we'll head to my parents' for their annual friend get together (we've been doing it since I was in early high school at least and I love it--just lots of food and our oldest family friends).  Christmas Day we don't have too much planned except for dinner at my parents with one of my brothers and my mom's brother and his family.  We may have FIL & his wife over for breakfast Christmas morning or the day after... we're very last minute planners with him.

No big gifts this year.  Our Israel trip was for every gift this year.  I will fill a stocking for DH with some fancy nuts, a water bottle because he always loses his, and a couple other little things... I need to figure that out still.  Tongue Tied

I'm not asking for anything for Christmas but I know my parents got me a set of Mexican inspired dishes.  I was drooling over them at a silent auction earlier this year and they didn't sell so my mom asked if I'd like them for Christmas and she bought them for the minimum bid which was a steal.  I'm pretty excited about that.  They'll be great in our new kitchen if we get the house we're trying for too!

Sorry to hear this ladies.  This is honestly one of my biggest fears for when we start trying.  I'll be praying for strength in the process and of course for conception!

  • I love my ornaments from karma :)  Husband has to work on Christmas this year (and my Birthday, and New Year's Eve, and New Years Day) so we will be doing Christmas on Christmas Eve day.....and then I will be spending Christmas day with my Mom...and our dogs Big Smile

I never know what to buy my husband....a haircut? ;)

And I'm sending baby dust to you ladies who are dealing with IVF....I'm gonna shake that *** all over the place (sorry for cursing)... ;)

  • How could I forget those ornaments?  Cipolla, I'll admit to being super lazy--I never changed the picture in that ornament, so you and hubby are still on our tree.  Weird?  Maybe.  I'll change it eventually :)

It's the ILs' turn for Christmas this year, so we'll be travelling to GA for the holidays.  This year I didn't ask for anything big--yoga gear, knitting things, the usual.  Mostly, I just want more time!  I got a tad ambitious with crafty Christmas presents this year and started kinda late.  It is crunch time...

However, I did finish my big gift to DH: a sweater.  He picked out the yarn and the pattern and I've already made him try it on.  I was thrilled that it fits so well!  What a relief!

Other than that, not much going on with us.  DH is still studying for his CPA and all other plans are on hold until then.  However, we are both very happy with our current positions--good people, lots of potential, so we are counting our blessings!

  • Mucho baby waves to the ladies dealing with IF and to everyone who plans on having children in the future...baby waves, baby waves, baby waves!!!!!!!

The Mr seems to be under the impression that i'm made of money this year. His Christmas list was a bit hilarious. I know he doesn't expect to get more then one or two things off of it but it's still funny to see. I'll stow it away an use it for years to come since a lot of it are things he can use in other years like snow board passes and records and things.

I just asked for gift cards to Best Buy since I am buying myself a camera for Christmas. I am hoping to luck into a great boxing day sale. I also asked for moccasins, a Newfoundland license plate for my car, curling tickets since the Tournament of Hearts is here in Red Deer in February and the Urban Decay naked palette. If I get any of those things i'll be very happy.

My sister is coming for Christmas this year and I am so psyched. She hasn't been home for Christmas now for like 2 years! So we'll be spending a lot of time with her and my family and then on NYE we have to go to MIL's for supper. I feel Witty's pain when it comes to IL's. MIL needs to be on that Monster Inlaws show for real. But on the bright side after that we have a NYE party at a friends place and they are always a good time.

*HAHA!*  This is SO like me.  Smile  DH would be saying, "Who the heck are these people on our tree AGAIN!?"  Smile

  • Funny, we put up the tree this weekend and I was just talking to my DH about the ornament exchange.  We love the ornament that Kel gave us.  We do not have big plans for Christmas this year.  We will be spending it with family up north.  Since we are adopting a baby in January we decided to do no gifts as the adoption is SO expensive and is our gifts to each other.

  • Hi 1009'ers! I miss you all. If you miss me too, the best way to reach me is FB. It's the extent of my social life these days! :)

Thanks Kristina, for cherishing Karma as much as I do!

You all have been so busy! There's going to be a batch of 1010 babies running amuck soon, and I can't wait to meet them! With my baby now 18 years old, we are done, and thrive on the giggles and drooly faces of friends kids- Please post pics and ancedotes, I'll NEVER get tired of hearing about how cute your kids are!

I've been busy (who hasn't, right?) Still working with a cycling coach, and trying not to eat too many cookies this time of year. Aiming for my first Century (again) in March, so there's no rest for the wicked! I saved my allowance for MONTHS and bought a fancy-pants Vita-Mix blender, which is making me deliriously happy. Trying to fit The Holidays in around training and a packed work schedule (Dear Nurses, PLEASE don't strike right now!!!) has little down time, but my back is threatening to revolt, so I'm home today cleaning closets and relaxing the best I can.

DH is fat and happy (maybe a little too fat?) But that's a story for another day. I love you all, and wish you the all the love in the world, and hope that Santa brings you the BEST GIFT EVER (baby? Mortgage Statement? Maybe just a quiet day?)

  • We are going to my mom's and DH's moms house on Sunday.  Tomorrow and DS might got to my sister's for dinner.

Since DS is in the picture now, DH and I aren't doing gifts and want to focus on the LO.

I honestly don't know if anyone is getting me anything since all I want the focus on is DS!
