I posted this over on D/R--you girls are smart and creative--what are your thoughts?
Our family room has beautiful windows and I love the view (we have a backyard full of trees). I cannot decide what, if any, window treatments we should do for the lower windows. I am not a fan of roman shades and I don't want blinds. I like the look of drapes (how it adds color and softens the hard surfaces), but with the windows being so close to the fireplace (not that heat is an issue) and encompass a corner, I'm just not sure.
It is hard to get a good picture, but here are a couple. The area behind the Christmas tree is a mirror image of the side behind the chair. Both have the windows flanking the fireplace and one on the adjoining wall. Any ideas?

Re: NCR: Need decorating help re: window treatments (PIP)
You have a lovely home.
Honestly, I would probably go without window treatments, expecially if your view is trees and not a neighbor. It looks great as is. But if you really wanted to add something in, maybe I'd do a valance on them? Those are easy to DIY.
What about a lace or sheer curtain - it can be down for slight privacy or pulled back - it would look delicate.
Laces come in lots of colors nowadays...
I'm jealous of your high ceilings and amazing light!!!
What is the goal of the window treatment? Do you need to make the room darker to watch movies?? Do you need privacy from the deer? Are there any deer? To finish the room?
I am personally not a huge fan of window treatments but I do agree that they soften up the room and closing them when you want to darken the room is helpful, too.
Here are some photos I found on an interior design sight:
I like the first one, but do something else for the cornices so they won't hide your arches window. The second and last one are both nice with the arched window.
Overall, I think the fabric would look nice if the shade of color was close to the wall color (not the color of the fabric, but just the intensity of the color, KWIM... light color or med color if you walls are light or medium). The darkness of the curtain is the first photo makes it too dramatic for me, but if you like it, then go for it!

What a beautiful room! I absolutely love the fireplace. I'd love to do those type of stones on ours someday.
Personally I think the windows look great without anything, but I do like this style as well. Since your lower windows are separate, you could do treatments on the lower ones that are similar but straight instead of arched. I would probably keep the treatments separate for the windows (upper and lower) and not have one very long curtain hanging down from the upper part.
(Edited to fix my typo!)
I really like this one!!!

LOL--I hardly think it is "pin-worthy"
Thanks for the ideas. I showed DH the long curtains and he is not a fan--thinks they look like a museum (boys....). Of course, he really doens't think we need curtains--but I wonder if it more due to the fact that he has been shopping for home decor fabric with me before and had major sticker shock! Ugh...decisions!
I just need some color in that room. It is soooooo beige/brown right now and it is driving me crazy!!

So true on the sticker shock! I usually go to Denver Fabrics to see the home dec fabric and touch it, then order it for 1/2 the price on fabric.com.
How about just cornices (fabric covered "boxes" to frame the top of the windows) That will add some color and not break the bank. I really like the top of the windows that Hunniapple posted. Nice arch for the top windows and just something straight for the bottom windows.
