Sending Xmas/Care Package overseas...

Hi Ladies,

This is my first time needing to send a package to my husband overseas.  I have the box ready, but was curious do I need to fill out a customs sheet?  It's going to an APO, so not sure if that makes a difference.  I'm trying to be as prepared and ready as possible :)

Re: Sending Xmas/Care Package overseas...

  • Yep.  You can be more general on the sheet (not listing every single thing out like this dummy did). If you have any problems the post office will help.

  • Yes. I just sent one. I had 3 types of candy, 3 different heatable meals, and cookies so I just grouped them all together as "food". I also had lotion, baby wipes, and pads. I grouped it as" sanitary products".

  • THANK YOU!!  Seriously I feel better knowing, the kiddos and I have been baking tonight and I want to ship it out tomorrow.  I appreciate your help tonight :)

  • Yep, it will need a customs form, but like others said you can be pretty general about what you list ("food", "snacks', "drink mix", "toiletries", etc).  Someone once told me that when she listed "coffee" it came back, so she started just calling coffee "drink mix."

Also, if it's going to a deployed location, and you want the package to get there by Christmas, you should probably mail today or tomorrow at the latest.   Priority mail generally takes a week to get to the bigger bases, though this time of year it can take more like 10-12 days.  If its going to a smaller base I'm not sure how long it takes.
