need vacuum cleaner suggestions

We are moving this week and we will have carpet, tile, and laminate floors.  We have 80lb german shepherd that sheds like nobody's business.  I need something that will work great on all types of floors and furniture to pick up dog hair.  Any suggestions?  I don't want to pay for a Dyson though...thats the only stipulation.

  • I know you said that you don't want to pay for a Dyson, but they are truly worth it. I have 2 pugs that shed like crazy. I was going through a vacuum on a regular basis. I got the Dyson Animal with the ball and love it.

  • I got the Shark Lift Away Pro and love it. It really sucks up my Aussie/Border Collie's hair, and I have carpet and hardwood floors. I did not realize it until I opened the box, but it also has a duster attachment for hardwood/tile floors, which comes in handy! It was $180 at WalMart, which I felt was reasonable.

  • I looked at the Shark Lift Away Pro I wasn't for sure how well it worked.  I heard the canister was small, but I guess if it works well thats all that matters.  How long have you had yours?  Did you notice any loss in suction?

  • I have had mine for a month and my friend has had hers for a few months, and she also has animals. The canister has not filled up on me yet, and it picks up my 2 cats' and my dog's hair SO WELL. I have not noticed a loss of suction; it does say that if you don't clean the filter that can happen but I just made sure to clean mine after my last use (my floors were TERRIBLE when I moved in). It is easy to empty the canister and to clean the filter, so overall I am very pleased with it.
