Am I being unreasonable?

So one of my best gay male friends recently started dating a new guy. They have been together for about three months now and said friend spends all his weekends with this guy. My friend used to be really awesome and we'd probably hang out one night a week and text frequently. Now on the rare occasion I do see my friend, he spends a lot of the time text his boyfriend, like during dinner. It's really annoying and I've told him so.

Additionally he spends all weekend with his boyfriend (literally from Friday after work until first thing Monday morning) and they rarely hang out with other friends. My friend does have some extra curriculars as well that keep him busy.

I have texted him three times over the past week (now remember his glued to his phone) and he hasn't responded until today. He says he is "so sorry just been overwhelmed with work."

I'm super pissed off. I know that he's busy, but he makes plenty of time for this boyfriend. Which is fine, but I think you need to make time for your friends who have always been there. I guess this is more of a vent, but am I being super unreasonable for being upset? I mean how long does it take to respond to a simple text message? I know for a fact he texts boyfriend about 80 times per day (not an exaggeration).

I'm just going to cut him lose for the time being, but I'm really sad. Because he was such a phenomal friend.

Re: Am I being unreasonable?

  • Why not just talk to him and say "I am really happy that you found someone that you really like. I miss hanging out with you and I feel like our friendship isn't as strong as it used to be. It would mean a lot if we could hang out xxx night." and see what he says.

Oh I have. This is still his behavior.

Then you either put up with him or cut him loose. Sounds like you don't want to put up with him so cutting him loose is the best choice.

Agreed. I'm just really frustrated by friends who can't seem to maintain any relationships outside of their significant other. It makes me sad.

Yup, especially when they come crawling back after the relationship tanks.

  • Not unreasonable but the sad thing is most women I know do this too.  At any rate if it were me I would probably just stopp contacting him and if/when he decides that he has time and contacts you decide if you want to still be friends with him.
