ettm: ugly sweater parties
i got invited to one, and i literally have *zero* interest in going. i'm thankful enough that i've never been gifted a christmas sweater.....so why would i want to go out and buy an ugly sweater? i'm not interested....
does anybody *really* get these as gifts? i understand if you're a middle aged woman who might share these with her friends, etc...but what is the appeal in this?
TIA!

Re: ettm: ugly sweater parties
I have two friends that have these parties. I know for a fact that they've gone out and bought the sweaters for their parties, they were not gifted to them.
My friend explained it to me that it's like dressing up for Halloween. *shrugs*

I'm with you jenn. DH's cousin is throwing an ugly sweater party and I have no interest in going. I don't own an ugly sweater and I really don't want to go and buy one.
I'd go to the party without one but I don't want people asking me all night why I'm not wearing a sweater.

i think this is a good explanation....i get it now. it's just that they're relatively "new" right? like last 5 yearsish ago? i never heard about it before then. i guess maybe in a few years i'll jump on the bandwagon...just not yet.

We throw an annual holiday party, and the past few years they were ugly sweater themed. Most folks found their sweaters at goodwill, or got them from parents/grandparents/etc.
We also welcomed any "holiday attire" or general ugly sweater
.
We changed it up this year due to not wanting our friends to have to go out and find one.
It's basically like Halloween. A fun excuse to dress up, drink, and get together.
TTC #2 for a million years: SA normal, CD 23 bloodwork shows nothing amiss, ovulation detected. Next step: ? maybe CD3 bloodwork to check eggs? All out of pocket, so limited IF tests/treatments.
I always assumed everyone borrowed one from their mom, that's what I do
LOL
for real though, she has a couple - think people actually wore these in the 90s. Thankfully she doesn't wear them anymore because I forbid the wearing of Christmas sweaters, but she still has them. When I wanted to borrow one last year, she made me say 5 nice things about it first. Warm, colorful, comfortable, festive... I think I got stuck, but came back with a 5th later.

omg, it's an excuse to get together during the holidays, eat, drink, and be ridiculous in your ugly sweater. sounds like a grand time to me. i've never been to one but i see pics online all the time and would LOVE to have one.
mental note.. have one someday.
