Re: Discuss
I didn't read the article but based on your little blurb, this is what I have to say.
1. My parents are planning to get us a KitchenAid mixer and I can't be more excited about it.
2. I've been begging my BIL for the last few years for a puppy for Christmas. I know he won't do it, but still. I'd be satisfied with a puppy for Christmas.
3. Yeah, agreed. No TV commercial jewelry.
4. Depending on what the gift bsaket is, I can totally dig this gift.
5. I like sweaters! MIL usually gets me a couple every Christmas.
6. Please give me CC gift cards! Then I don't have to feel bad when I hate the gift you give me.
7. Um yeah, I don't do lingerie - so, I'm fine with this being on the list.
1. Household appliances--Okay, if I've been talking all year about a new vacuum or my KitchenAid mixer broke, I want a new one dammit!! Christmas is the only time of year I can justify a large purchase like that. If I tell my husband I want a new mixer, get me the new mixer.
2. Pets--I can understand this one. I'd rather have a talk with my kids about responsible pet ownership and let them be a part of the adoption process so they understand how important it is. Not that Santa brought a puppy.
3. Jewelry you've seen on a TV commercial--Also can understand this one. But like the household appliances, if I say I want it, get it, whether its commercial or not.
4. Gift Baskets--I LOVE gift baskets. Especially when they involve food.
5. A sweater--Get me a gift card for a clothing store.
6. Credit Card Gift Cards--I agree with this one. Unless you're going to get a specific gift card, don't get me a pre-paid VISA. I'm less likely to spend that on fun stuff for me.
7. Lingerie--I don't wear it, so it's not applicable.
I do royally hate those stupid Visa Gift Cards. They never work right for me and it always ends up being a freakin hassle.
But I would happily take household appliances (there are a few on my list) and sweaters (I picked 9 out which my mom paid for).
I don't see why Gift Baskets are on there. I guess maybe because half the time I toss most of the store bought junk in it. But I think if you put together one with a specific theme, thats a good idea. I would like a wine basket. A chocolate basket. A kitchen basket. Ooh a cheese basket.
Combine the bolded and you can just send it to me as MY Christmas present!
The 7 Gifts to Avoid this Holiday Season:
1. Household appliances - If it's something I really wanted I wouldn't care if someone got it for me for Christmas. I asked for a toaster back when I had just moved out of my moms house and was really happy to get one lol
2. Pets - I can see their reasoning behind this. If you have a busy holiday season it might be a good idea to wait until after it's done
3. Jewelry you've seen on a TV commercial - I agree, I like to get jewelry that not every one else has.
4. Gift Baskets - I heart gift baskets
5. A sweater - Unless someone asks for one and gives me their size, I wouldn't buy one for someone
6. Credit Card Gift Cards - From working retail, I hated these cards. Our systems weren't set up for them and always had problems with them, so I will never give one as a gift and if I get one I go to a store I like and buy that amount on a gift card with it.
7. Lingerie - I'm good with not getting this for Christmas and I wouldn't give it as a gift either lol
1. I'm totally fine with household appliances as long as they don't say "your house is filthy and you clearly need this to keep up".
2. Negative on this one- pets are a large commitment and require forethought, planning, budgeting and a ton of work on the part of the owner.
3. Yeah, agreed. No TV commercial jewelry. (I'm looking at you Dr. Quinn)
4. This is also a no for me, unless it is full of hand selected items like Stees said- if you get me a generic BBW gift basket I'll probably hate it.
5. Depends on who it is from- if MIL is picking it out, helltotheno- I don't need Swarovski encrusted angel sweaters. If BFF picks out a super cute cable knit, then sure.
6. I'm fine with these even though they're a little bit difficult. I like to just spend a lot of money and use them like a coupon for $x off.
7. This is an awkward gift to receive in public, so I'm fine with getting none. Also, if H gives it to you in private and the people ask, what are you supposed to say you got?!
Stand up for something you believe in.
1. Household appliances - I don't see a problem with this. I want a dustbuster so bad and Guy says it's not an appropriate gift. I'm like it is if I ask for it!
2. Pets - I agree with the concensus that it's not a good idea to get a pet without really thinking about it and discussing the responsibilities of pet ownership with the child in question.
3. Jewelry you've seen on a TV commercial - If I say I want it? Buy it. But don't go out and buy me an Open Hearts booty necklace just because you saw it on TV.
4. Gift Baskets - I love gift baskets. Food ones are the best. BBW or whatever usually just gets regifted.
5. A sweater - Who doesn't like a nice sweater?
6. Credit Card Gift Cards - I would prefer to have a store card.
7. Lingerie - That's just creepy.
Hahah you're so good to me....
Now:
1. Household appliances -- I can see this, unless you specifically ask for it. I? could go for a nice KitchenAid mixer right about now.
2. Pets -- unless someone specifically asks for something and there's an arrangement figured out (ie what we did for Freya) no one should ever buy an unsuspecting individual a pet as a present for ANYTHING
3. Jewelry you've seen on a TV commercial -- I dunno... Pandora is starting to advertise on TV
4. Gift Baskets -- not true. I love a good gift basket, especially one that's homemade
5. A sweater -- boo to this.
6. Credit Card Gift Cards -- this is all our mall offers, and if you know how to use them, its not so bad.
7. Lingerie -- depends on who is getting it for you...
