A while back, I posted about looking for a mid-January 5K. Thanks to your advice, I signed up for the 5K associated with the marathon.
I've been using active.com to find other events, but I'm not finding much for April. Is it just early, or is that the end of the Houston running "season"?
I'd like to try to participate in 12 events in 2012. If I'm not going to find any Houston events after April until it cools down again, I'll probably need to double up events while it's still cool.
This is really my first foray into running and my first look at participating in running events, so some of these questions might seem naive. They probably are! ![]()
Thanks for your help!
Re: 5Ks
Active isn't always the greatest, I've found it cumbersome to navigate.
I like using EZtoregister.com for smaller, local events. Luke's Locker and Fleet Feet both have local races on their local store pages. Runner's World has some local events as well. And Athlinks.com is a good way to look up events as well. Runningintheusa.com is another resource. I googled and found this place too - http://www.houstonrunningcalendar.com
5Ks are more plentiful in May - September when it gets too hot to run much further than that. I'm doing Angie's Half Crazy in April.
There's a fun run called 4 For The Park - it's a 4 mile run at Memorial held in early April, but they haven't announced the 2012 date yet. There are also a few Earth Day 5Ks

We have some fun events in Galveston throughout the year too - use this site, it's a local running store and they list local events.

The only race I can find in Galveston in April though is the Memorial Hermann Ironman... not exactly a 5k LOL. Good luck - sounds like a neat goal!
The Rise and Shine 5K is normally in Late April/ Early May
I'm am also attempting the 12 races in 12 months however I'm adding in some Tris to the mix.
There is always a July 4th 5K.
