.For those with kids that are really walking/running - how often are you finding you need to get new shoes? I mean, Jane can't tell me they are too small yet. Do you just go by when they get harder to put on? Do you just feel the toe every once in a while?
I got Janie sized in late Aug/Sept for 'back to school' and got a few pairs of shoes she's been wearing since then. I feel like the sneakers are getting harder to put on, but another pair (same size) are still totally fine.
Anyway, I'm planning on taking her to get sized over Christmas break, but I'm wondering if there is a better way to tell if things are too small before they can tell you?
Re: BW Toddlers/Walkers: Shoes and Sizing
He's gone from a 6 to an 8 since summer. Sandals were much easier than gym shoes / winter boots + socks. I feel like he has monster feet.
His daddy wears a 14/15 - I don't think he is taking after my 7.5 feet. LOL!
We're still on our first round of shoes (we let her go barefoot every day through late spring and the entirety of the summer, since she wasn't walking yet), so I don't have much experience to speak of.
Nora's size 3s are mostly still fitting her fine, but I bought her a pair of patent leather mary janes over the weekend to wear with her Christmas dress, and the size 3s were really difficult to put on, so I bought the size 4s instead. When I got them home and put them on with her tights, they turned out to be pretty big, but she can still wear them, and I guess she has room to grow.
It is so hard to size their feet! I feel your pain.

I always have just gone by when they are getting hard to put on. Kellen was wearing a 7 pretty much all last year. He wore Crocs all summer and then when it started getting colder I couldn't get any of his sneakers on him. So, he now wears an 8.
I have the hardest time finding shoes that fit Tessa's feet. She has little feet but they are chubby. I have to get a size up and wides in sneakers so that I can get her feet into the shoe. When she wears Mary Janes she has a little pudge of foot fat sticking out of the space, it's so cute. Finding shoes that fit kids is hard!
This is exactly what happened to us! Natalie wore a 6 all summer and it was like she skipped 7's. She may have fit into a pair of 7s for about four weeks. She's in 8s now and I think she'll be there until spring. Based on her past growth, it appears that she goes up a size every 3 months or so.
Alex wears size 7. A couple weeks ago Stride Rite told me she was a 7.5/8. I don't think so since she has some size 8 and they fall of constantly, trip her up, etc. I squish her toes to find out her size, and I'm pretty on top of it since I permanent problems from my feet growing so fast as a kid, and my mother not keeping up with the growth in my shoes.
Since I buy Alex's shoes at lots of places, some still fit her at 6.5, some 7s I can't get on her at all. The only other way I know to tell is there are some kid shoes (Walmart or Payless probably) that have a clear window in the sole that lets you see where the toes are without squishing.
My boring blog
We got the twins shoes in Aug/Sept for back to school and just a couple weeks ago we had to take them back and they both went up a whole size. We are getting them new shoes for Christmas so we are going to get them measured. I generally just take out the insole and can see where their toes are making an impression. Stride Rite shoes have a line saying if their toes hit here they should get new shoes. Abby has also gone up from a 7.5 to an 8.5 since August!
Also certain brands of shoes run small, while like Target brand stuff seems to run bigger.

An INCH of room? Is Landon walking (I can't remember?). I can't imagine a kid, esp. a new (or newish walker) successfully walking with a shoe that big on! Jane had a pair of sandals this summer that were that big but they were so 'floppy" in the front she constantly stubbed her toe in the and tripped. So, I've been allowing less room bordering now on my feeling that they are too small. Interesting....
When I get her sized again in a few weeks I'll have to see how close she is to the next size and decide how big to go.
