Most annoying or favorite holiday song?

My employer has started streaming Christmas music and I'm annoyed because it's all instrumental. I want to hear words. I hate the twelve days of christmas song. I it's especially annoying when there are no words. I really love Dido's "Christmas Day". For some reason it's my favorite. As well as the Hanukkah song by Adam Sandler Tell me your likes and dislikes in holiday music.

Re: Most annoying or favorite holiday song?

  • I love "Holly Jolly Christmas" and almost anything TSO.

Can't stand the Chimpunk Xmas song.  I used to love it but now it annoys me.

  • Favorite is O Holy Night or What Child Is this. Really, I love all the classic hymns.

I despise Christmas Shoes. DESPISE it.

  • "The First Noel" has been my favorite Christmas song forever.

However, Since I had "Let it Snow" as our first dance song despite my H's aversion to snow, it has a special place in my heart and now makes me smile whenever i hear it.

Sandler's Hanukkah songs make me cheerful because of how they were such a big deal when i was younger and they first came out.

I don't like the Hippopotamus for Christmas song.  at all.

  • I hate Little Drummer Boy and want to stick a fork in my ears when it comes on.

O Holy Night by Mariah Carey is my favorite.

  • Ditto chels on the damn chipmunk song.  FFS, that song makes me want to scoop my eyes out with a rusty melon baller.

And steph has the right idea with Christmas Shoes.  FUCKTHATNOISE.

I really love classic Christmas hymns too.  They just sound magical to me.

Also, I'm that girl who blasts Mariah Carey's Christmas album her car and sings along to it.  Badly.

  • I also LOVE Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays by N'Sync.

    :::runs and hides:::

  • I love O Holy Night and Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.

I also LOVE Dominic the Donkey, but it has made H dislike the name Dominic and its one of my top boy names for a future child.

I also hate the hippo song. Another one I hate is the dominic the donkey. I wanna shoot that donkey.

    That sounds really painful.

  • I love O Come O Come Emmanuel. I can't stand anything sad.

True story, when I was little I thought they lyric to Silent Night was "sleep in heavenly pee".. because obviously baby Jesus has heavenly pee and babies wear diapers...

  • I don't think there are ANY Christmas songs that I like tbh.  I'm stumped.  The hippo song is most annoying.  And I've never heard the shoes one but from what people say, I hope I never do.

Mm, like Dominic Toretto. I approve.

  • Absolute fave fun song though: The Timberlake Classic D*ck in a Box

My friends and I go to a Christmas Pop Singalong every year. This year its on Thursday. This song is always played/sung. After the show, we go out in the streets downtown and sing to people. Its fun.

  • The Chipmunks and the Hippopotamus song make me want to rip my eardrums out with a fork.

And I think of Burl Ives leering and singing in a creepy tone when he sings 'kiss her once for me' in Holly Jolly Christmas.

I love O Holy Night.  My favorite ever.

  • I'm really not a fan of any novelty holiday song, except Baby It's Cold Outside (Glee or Lady A version).  All time favorite is O Holy Night with a close 2nd being Joy To The World on the Preacher's Wife Soundtrack.

And when did My Favorite Things (from The Sound of Music) become a holiday song?

  • Favorites are Little Drummer Boy, What Child Is This, The First Noel, and Christmas Eve/Sarajevo.

Oh, and I love Two-step Round The Christmas Tree. It reminds me of growing up and my Grandpa playing it every year.

I can't stand The Christmas Song. Hate it. With a passion.

You are not alone! I also love the Hanson Christmas album. :)

  • O' Holy Night is my favorite, especially the Kelly Clarkson version. The Family Guy songs are funny for a quick chuckle. The Justin Bieber/Mariah Carey version of "All I Want For Christmas is You" is horrible. It was fine the way it was and Justin Bieber made it all sucky and whatnot.

My least favorite song is "12 Days of Christmas" and "All I Want For Christmas (is my 2 front teeth)."

Yes I too hate Dominick the Donkey .... the Italian Christmas donkey.  I'm sorry... the whole song doesn't make sense.  The reindeer can't climb the hills of Italy (yet they can fly)  so Santa needs Dominick.  HATE.

  • My favorite is Roger Whittaker's ?Hallelujah it?s Christmas.'  Growing up my parents would play the same three Xmas records during the holidays. Roger Whittaker, Ann Murray, and some classical holiday record that I don't know the name of.   A few years ago we finally gave them the CD versions for the first two.  Since then they've added about 3 other albums to their Christmas collection.

Oh and we would watch A smoky Mountain Christmas a million times since my dad taped it off the tv.  My parents kept all of their taped from TV shows on VHS tapes when they moved. I like watching some of them when I'm home, so I can watch old school commercials.

  • I love O Holy NIght and pretty much all the Christmas hymns.

I'm not a fan of The Christmas Shoes, and Feliz Navidad just irks me.

  • My favorite is The Chirstmas Song by Nat King Cole. I like most of the old Christmas songs. I'm not a big fan of the childish ones, but I do like Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman.

One that I have just started to hate this year is Do you Hear what I Hear. I've heard like 12 different versions and they drive me batty. I also don't think most of the lyrics make any sense, a star with "a tail as big as a kite." Uh, kites really don't have that big of tails. It just irks me.

  • My favorite Christmas song will always be Carol of the Bells. Love it.
  • Most annoying - My work has at least 3 versions of Santa Baby on the rotation and I hate all of them. There's a really old version, an old version, and one that is probably by Taylor Swift. They are all awful. We also have a version of I'll Be Home For Christmas sung by Josh Groban, who I adore, but the song is super sad because they use quotes from troops deployed at the holidays during the song. Like "This is Sgt. Bob Smith from Minneapolis, I just want to wish my family a Merry Christmas from Afghanistan!" IDK the first time I heard it at work last year (because we never get new songs apparently) I almost started crying.

Also we have a version of Run Run Rudolph by Sheryl Crow were she literally sounds drunk singing it. I actually can't stand most Christmas songs, working retail will do that to you :) I think all the stores have the same selection of Christmas songs, more or less, so when I go shopping at other stores I hear songs that only remind me of work.

I really only like the traditional Christmas carols. My favorite is O Holy Night. Carrie Underwood did a really good version on her holiday special a few years ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXAzt4pUr3Y
