Christmas Eve Dessert Ideas Needed

I am in charge of dessert on Christmas Eve and I need ideas.

(1) Needs to feed 20 people (though there may be someone else doing dessert, not sure...)

(2)  Not cookies b/c we have spent the past weekends making every cookie under the sun and I'm over it.

(3) Not pie b/c I am not really a fan of pie.

and.......GO!

Re: Christmas Eve Dessert Ideas Needed

  • How about some sort of trifle?  I make a strawberry-brownie one from time to time, and it's always a crowd pleaser (and so easy to make).  You could easily make it as big as you'd like.

All I do is make a box of fudge brownies, crumble them up once they're baked, and then layer them with chocolate pudding (made from the Jello instant boxes), sliced strawberries, and Cool Whip.  Then top the whole thing with sliced berries and some chocolate shavings.

You could also easily make changes using cake instead of brownies, different puddings, other fruits, etc.  They're very pretty, too.

  • I think a couple of trifles would be good.  I like the one already posted.  Last year, I wanted to make this chocolate gingerbread one but ran out of time:

This frozen peanut butter pie with candied bacon also sounds really yummy, but wouldn't  feed 20 and not everyone loves bacon as much as I do.

  • We always make these on Christmas Eve. A single recipe won't feed 20, but it's pretty simple to make multiple at the same time :) Yummy and simple!
  • You don't like ANY pies? Not even chocolate pudding pie? It is super easy, and super good.

  • Every Christmas Eve we have cheesecake cupcakes.  No idea how the tradition started, but they're outstanding and there's never even one left.  The recipe makes 4 dozen but they are freezer friendly... and I've never know someone to not want two.  It's a family recipe so it is not online but I'd be happy to email it to you (or anyone)... I am thinking of putting it on allrecipes.com.

Other than that... chocolate covered mint oreos are really easy (and a lot easier/ different from regular cookies), or you could make fudge... mmmm.

  • I like the trifle idea. I also just saw a pudding poke cake on Pinterest the other day. Bake a cake from a box. Poke holes in the baked cake with the end of a wooden spoon or something like that, pour on instant pudding made to box specifications, chill for a bit before serving. I haven't tried it, but it sounds simple and you could change the flavors to whatever you like.
  • Hmmmmm lots of yummy ideas guys, thanks.

re: Pie.  Yea, I am not really a fan.  I think it's the crust. I never eat the crust.  Some pie is OK but it's not my favorite thing.

    I also don't really like cheesecake (!) I know, I know.  but, it's true.
